Ya know maybe im just crazy, but I kind of really hate that things like Amber alerts, Silver Alerts, and all the fire warning/evacuation notifications - they all link to Twitter.

Sorry not sorry, but leaving important information like that to be disseminated via a privately owned corporation's social media site that you have to have an account to see and use - that is ridiculous in my opinion.

Those alerts are important enough to pop up on my phone and loudly screech, right? So then why aren't they important enough to have a dedicated government or police site page for them to link to???

The whole process just feels icky and like 7 steps to the left, ya know?

And not to be extremist here, but what if one of those Twitter accounts gets hacked or whatever and the hackers put out a retraction that makes everyone think, "oh its all over no big deal hahaha"???

Was anyone else expecting the emergency alert thing to be louder? It was kind of disappointing low-key.

(but also I think the whole thing is kind of suspicious, like why do we need it tested? Are we going to war?)

Emergency provincial alert that the power grid is under stress and people need to immediately reduce power usuage or we could have rolling blackouts while it is -45. Awesome.

Everyone in the UK please be aware that on Sunday 23rd April at 3pm the government will testing a phone emergency alert system.

Time set for national mobile phone emergency alert test

The government says a national emergency warning test will avoid disrupting major sporting events.

This alert will include, even if your phone is on silent:

A loud siren

Vibration

It will last around 10 seconds.

According to the article, "The test message and alarm is expected to hit 90% of mobile phones in the UK. Phone users can swipe away the alert message or click "OK" on their home screen to continue using their phone as normal."

Turning your phone off means you won't receive the message.

If you are in a situation where you have a hidden second phone, the domestic abuse charity Refuge has posted a video on how to turn the alerts off.
