in defence of empty stomachs
I wrote these a while ago, when there was a post going around disrespecting (/hj) the glory and potential of empty-stomach-sickness a.k.a. dry-heaving. Posting it now because of this lovely post that reminded me of it.
🖤 anxious or nauseated characters who haven’t eaten but are still refusing food, picking listlessly at their food, pushing food around their plate, or making a face at the mere sight or smell of food? (Heaven.)
🖤 dry-heaving characters who can only produce thin streams of water or stomach acid, along with a few tears thanks to the exertion.
🖤 a character who has been too stressed to eat (my beloved), but their stomach insists on trying to make them throw up, resulting only in painful clenching and harsh gagging.
🖤 subtle reactions to nausea such as burping into their fist or rubbing their stomach. Also: resting their head on a table, lying down, leaning on another character, looking for medicine, groaning or complaining, covering their mouth, holding their head in their hands.
🖤 the groans and gurgles that might be from the queasiness, might be from hunger, who could possibly tell?
🖤 shakiness and dizziness from hunger that only add to the discomfort of the whole situation
