It’s easy to want someone to hold
to touch
to care for
It’s not so easy to find them, though.
What are you achieving
when our skin hasn’t even touched
what are you gaining
when I haven’t even gifted any of myself to you
I ask you
what was the point
of all those lies
and all of that time
wasted
when you aren’t even getting anything out of it
It can’t be over
if it never started
Please
Let me lay with you
Let me bathe in your presence
I can stop time
I nearly sunk into your chest the other night
I could have stayed on that wall forever
Feeling energy explode out of your body
I hope you feel the same way
sober
I’m too scared to write poems about you
Because what if you go away?
Then my words are permanently placed
Permanent reminders of a potentially temporary thing
God, I hope this isn’t a temporary thing
I have become the version of myself
that I always wanted to be.
I am me, unapologetically.
And although I am not searching
for someone
to make me whole
nor fill a void
I am one on my own
full of love and complete as I come
it would be nice
to have a hand to hold
as I fall asleep
