Happy birthday beautiful! I have on my favorite perfume today, just like you would. You don't even know how much we miss you. Life, I can say hasn't been the same and it never will be. I just pray that I continue to make you proud. What I wouldn't do right now to get in your bed and watch TV with you. I don't dwell on why you're gone but how your life has touched others. Grandma you are my angel my hero, happy birthday 🎂🎂🎂🎂#charleston9 #EthelLeeLance #August30 #72 #Emmanuel9 (at Charlotte, North Carolina)
Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in downtown Charleston, South Carolina, United States, on the evening of June 17, 2015. During a prayer service, nine people were killed by a gunman, including the senior pastor, state senator Clementa C. Pinckney; a tenth victim survived. The morning after the attack, police arrested a suspect, later identified as 21-year-old Dylann Roof, in Shelby, North Carolina. Roof later confessed that he committed the shooting in hopes of igniting a race war. The United States Department of Justice investigated whether the shooting was a hate crime or an act of domestic terrorism, eventually indicting Roof on 33 federal hate crime charges. Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church is one of the United States' oldest black churches and has long been a site for community organization around civil rights. Roof is to be indicted on federal hate crime charges, and has been charged with nine counts of murder by the State of South Carolina. If convicted, he could face a sentence of death or thirty years to life in prison. A website apparently published by Roof included a manifesto detailing his beliefs on race, as well as several photographs showing him posing with emblems associated with white supremacy. Roof's photos of the Confederate battle flag triggered debate on its modern display. #Emmanuel9 #ChurchShooting #IamAME (at Show Cutz)

New Jobs
This weekend I got to see humanity at its finest. My mom moved to Austin Tx January 2003 to attended seminary as she was called to do gods work. I was angry. I was hurt. I was a freshman in college and didn’t get the experience of bringing my clothes home or having a home cooked meal in my moms house during fall breaks. I was jealous of everyone who got that experience. I knew however it was bigger than me. Fast forward to June 17, 2015 when the world lost 9 precious souls, one including my grandmother Ethel. My mom’s mom. My granny. Things changed. Now we weren’t anonymous. We couldn’t grieve in private. Life as I knew would never be the same. I think mom knew that now was the time. It was time to come home. Her life in Texas was fulfilled. She did her work. Now she has a different job to do. Sunday May 8 my mom started her new job. She became a blessing to someone else and I got to witness it in living color. See my mom was trying to determine what to do with her possessions and how much of it she was taking back home. Her car, Betsy as she affectionately calls her wasn’t lucky enough to make the cut. Be a blessing to others is something she has told me in the past and that exactly what she did. She gave her car to a single mother who attends Joy Tabernacle AME who needed it more than her. More than what my mom could have sold it for. That impact she had on the young lady did more for me than it did for her. I saw my mom in her truer essence. Being a blessing to others. The way my granny was after countless hours in Emmanuel making sure it looked perfect for everyone who came to worship, even for the person who ultimately took her life. My mom is my hero and now that young lady who get to drive around in Betsy has a new hero too.
