"I already told y’all,” Sawyer says, looking around with wide, panicked eyes. “I ain’t gonna do it. Not again.” He’s learned by now that ultimately, it’s pointless to resist. But he has to try, he has to, because if he blindly goes along with it with little more than a cowering shrug, he’d be no better than his wardens.
Maybe, in a way, it’s kinder to take some of the pain from the memories of the others. But when it’s only done to make it easier to hurt them again, it doesn’t feel kind. It feels like cleaning out a wound just so you can see better where to press the knife and make it deeper.
Yaren has her orders, and she’d never disobey -- - but she hadn’t been told specifically not to do certain things. Like getting involved with Emmeline Essex. Ren is just curious (among other, less passive emotions). In some ways Emmeline is like her sister, but it feels like the woman didn’t appreciate it. Threw it all away, in fact. And now she’s here, what, hiding in the Xavier Institute? Ren’s going to reserve judgement, but she’s also going to stick her oar in.
After Sora had finished their tour, Ren decides to stick around. You know, in the interests of youth outreach. Talking to young students about their ambitions and yadda yadda yadda. It’s been a long day, and so it’s definitely a total accident when she bumps into Emmeline Essex, spilling iced coffee all over her. “Shit! Shoot.” Ren appears aghast, hand over her mouth as if this was a terrible accident. It wasn’t. If she’d not been concentrating, there’s a strong chance a collision would have sent Emmeline flying at least a few feet; it takes a lot of control for Ren to suppress her strength. “Are you-- I’m so sorry, I’ve just been having a crazy couple of weeks and I am so overwhelmed, I’ve not slept in like three days and I’m just all over the place. God, I’m... so sorry. But hey, at least it was iced; if it was hot coffee we might’ve been in real trouble!” @hqessex
weekly check in | emmeline & narcissa
Narcissa: Hello Emmeline! Hope you've had a good week. Just wanted to touch base about how you're doing.
When Lily created her Tinder, it was mostly a joke. She’d been bored and far too drunk and feeling a little frisky. The pictures she’d taken with Marlowe were great thirst traps and, frankly, it’d be a waste for them to just sit on her phone forever. So she made the tinder, set it to just women, and waited. She swiped when she was drunk, but not long after making it she went to sleep, only to wake up to a few messages.
Lily left it at that for awhile, talking to girls but never really making it past that stage. With her busy schedule it was hard to find time to actually go out with people, and she was still coming to terms with being out. Besides -- she had a crush on someone. Well, it was more than a crush. She liked someone, quite a bit, and she didn’t know how to flirt with anyone else.
Today was a rare day off, and Lily opened up the app on a whim. However, the first friendly face that pops up is Em’s. Her breath catches in her throat and she goes into what can only be described as bi-panic. She debates on what to do for about ten minutes before finally deciding that she may as well swipe right, what’s the worst that can happen?
The worst happens.
It’s a match.
She’s typing out a message to one of her closest friends before she can even think about it.
[Lily] you swiped on me??
[Lily] i didn’t know i was your type

...filthy mudbloods... And then rambunctious laughter. The group of men walking in front of him didn’t even notice him as he walked a few paces behind them. Maybe it was said in jest. Or maybe it was said ironically. All those maybes didn’t seem to matter given that the word was still said. Once upon a time, Isaac would have joined in the laughter. Or perhaps he’d let a snicker escape him or two. But now, he just found it bland and awful. But his dislike wasn’t strong enough for him to say anything. Isaac would have just walked past them without uttering a word when he saw the person in front of them, coming from the opposite end of the hallway. From the look on Emmeline’s face, it looked like she heard the tasteless joke too.

With the annual New Year’s party in full swing, Seth had made sure to do the annoying part of his job as President of the local motorcycle club which mainly involved being nice. Nice to the mayor and nice to the police that he came across, as if they didn’t already know what he was or what the club was. But he hoped he’d be able to at least keep the public calm with his gestures of good faith and maybe they’d get some new people to pay off in the process that would keep their mouths closed. Now that all those polite conversations were done and the room was placated, he went searching for Emmeline Talbot. While they hadn’t actually planned to go together as more than friends, Seth was hoping that something more might come out of the night with fancy dresses and suits, drinking and fine dining, and of course, the countdown in which Emme and Seth had plenty of experience with. Thinking back twenty years, almost to the moment to a time where things were simpler and they were younger. While that was a different time and things had changed for the both of them, there was still something there for Seth. Maybe it was still the schoolboy crush he’d had on Emme back then, a ghost of a memory, which got him to pick her up from her abusive husband’s home and bring her back to Olympus. Or maybe this was something new, something that grew over their time together, him helping with Beth and making sure that Emmeline felt safe in her own house. Seth adjusted the bowtie at his neck, moving it from left to right, cursing it under his breath. He wasn’t much for dressing up, let alone having something around his neck, but he kept it, knowing that it made him look like more of a professional, not some backroad hillbilly, which he mostly was. But these days, he was trying. Seth grabbed two drinks from the tray in front of him, smirking at the waitress as a ‘thank you’ as he slipped in next to Emme. “Got myself one too many drinks,” he suggested, handing over the flute of champagne. “Figured you might want one since you’re kid-free and the countdown is ‘round the corner.” Seth encouraged, trying to remind Emme she could let go and be a bit more calm at the event. “You deserve it, Em.”
familiar faces ♡ gianna &&. emmeline;
"I not gonna wear it!” Nikkie complained as she stomped her little feet as she looked up at her mother who was holding a little beanie with two pom poms on the end in an attempt to have her three year old toddler bundled up. It wasn’t necessarily cold but it was raining out which was a perfect time for a three year old to catch a cold and for some reason, Nicole was very prone to getting sick so she couldn’t have that happening. “Baby, mummy isn’t going to accept no for an answer. Do you want to get all sick and grumpy again and have to eat grandmum’s icky cabbage soup? Hm?” She asked her child who instantly pulled a disgusted expression, moving towards her mothers legs before hiding her face again Gianna’s legs. It was enough for Gianna to actually slip the little beanie onto her daughters head but the little girl soon whined, grabbed the hat and threw it towards a woman walking past them at their table in the bakery. “Oi! What did I tell you? One more time and I’m taking away Mr. Winkles.” She reprimanded as she watched her child fold her arms over before looking at the woman. “I’m so sorry about that, she’s normally not so... well, she normally doesn’t do that.” Her eyes focused on the woman, head slowly tilting as her eyes scrunched slightly since she looked vaguely familiar, “Have we met before?” Gianna had met many people in her life and been to many places so perhaps she was confusing the woman with someone else but it was always good to ask than wonder in silence.
