Social Media Encourages Better Healthcare
Social media is no longer being exploited for only communicating with friends and family. Healthcare providers and patients have realized the impact that utilizing social networks such as Facebook and Pinterest has on healthcare.

As the third leading social network, Pinterest is quickly gaining the attention of healthcare institutions. Most users of Pinterest are women and in general, ‘pinners’ have grown an increasing interest in health and wellness. President of a health care marketing firm, Dan Dunlop, stated that it is important to reach out to that demographic, as women often times play a large role in the healthcare of their families and aging parents (Zamosky, 2013).
A dental practice in Maryland in the United States maintains its patients informed through Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ about dental health. Making these social networks available to patients not only keeps them informed, but it also allows physicians to be in constant communication with their patients. Using social media to update patients is a great way to engage them in their own healthcare and may result in greater treatment adherence.
