Top five places that literally exist on different planes of reality:
1. Hospitals. In general. Everything’s so clean and well decorated and everyone smiles so much even though there’s probably at least 5 people dying at any given time. Every room is identical. Nothing ever changes.
2. Schools after hours. This counts for any place normally bustling with people that’s suddenly empty and dark. Everything echos so much more than usual and it feels like someone’s watching you even when you’re definitely alone.
3. Marcs/Sparkle Markets. These are American grocery stores and I’m not sure if they’re popular anywhere else but nothing feels real every time I’m in one of those. Marcs has huge neon signs for their freezers that make everything glow this weird dark blue and Sparkle just feels off. I don’t know why. My girlfriend feels the same way about Giant Eagle (also a grocery store. No clue what it is with those things.)
4. Rest stops. There’s this one I always stop at along the Ohio turnpike on the way to visit my aunt. There’s one on either side of the highway and they’re both exact clones of each other, just mirrored. Everyone there is always exhausted and on the way to somewhere else from somewhere else.
5. An empty house that’s usually occupied. My grandma is always home all the time when I’m there but I’ve had to be alone for a few hours while she’s away and it doesn’t even feel like the same house. Her spot on the couch is empty and all the lights are off and her morning coffee cup is still on the dining room table like nothings changed. It’s strange to feel uncomfortable in a place you’ve lived for years.
