I finally sat down to refine my very first theme, Nimbus, and I’m so happy with how it’s evolving! What started as a simple, slightly rushed layout has turned into something much more "me"—cute, elegant, and a little bit dreamy.
LIVE PREVIEW // CODE
On the live preview page, you will see a button that lets you instantly toggle between the 1-Column and 2-Column Grid layouts. You can click back and forth to see exactly which version fits your vibe better before you even install the theme!
Here’s a breakdown of the major changes I’ve implemented:
☁️ Smart Layout Logic
The Dashboard Toggle: I added a toggle in the customization menu for the Floating Status Widget.
Auto-Grid: If you toggle the Status OFF, the theme detects the extra space and automatically switches your posts into a 2-Column Grid Layout. If you toggle it ON, it returns to a focused Single Column. It adapts to how you want to use it!
🌙 New Functionality
Dark & Light Mode: I added a toggle (Sun/Moon icon) so you can switch between a dark grey aesthetic and a soft cream "Day" mode. It remembers your choice even if you refresh!
Hidden Controls: To keep the aesthetic clean, the Tumblr interface (Follow/Dashboard buttons) is hidden by default. You can reveal them by clicking the little user icon in the corner.
✨ Visual Overhaul
The "Glow" Effect: I moved away from flat borders. Now, the avatar, buttons, and posts have a soft, white box-shadow glow when you hover over them. It feels much more dreamy now.
Typography: Switched the sidebar title to Playfair Display (italicized) for that editorial magazine look, while keeping the body text clean.
Square Avatar: Swapped the small circle icon for a large, bold square profile picture.
Uppercase Headers: Post titles are now strictly uppercase with a divider line to separate them from the content.
☁️ The "Nimbus" Details
Floating Status: The status widget is now pill-shaped and gently floats up and down (literally!) to mimic a cloud.
Collection Dropdown: Converted the sidebar links into a collapsible "Collections" menu to save space.
Cloud Scroll-to-Top: Replaced the generic arrow with a custom cloud SVG.

A responsive multicolumn theme that puts the main focus on your posts. The thin sidebar holds your main links as well as an explore link that has a header, avatar, title, description, search bar, custom links, & social media links. I have a simplified version of this theme as well for those of you who just want a theme ‘straight out of the box’ and don’t need to change every single option. This theme was intended for photo heavy blogs (such as photographers).
Main Code Features: Masonry, Infinite Scroll, Unnested Captions, Hidden Captions, PXU Photosets, Hidden & Dark Tumblr Controls, 4 or 5 Columns, background image, custom margins & padding, preloader animation, scroll to top button, pop out navigation, up to 6 custom links & 6 custom social media icons, lots of colors etc. (full list of features & how to use them as well as theme credits can be found in my theme guide!)
Feel free to edit within the code if you know what you’re doing, but don’t remove or change my credit, thanks!
