An early shoot with performance artist Phatima of San Francisco fame. She made this outfit and made me one similar to it. A sort of rustic linen Mad Max peasant worn wear. These are iPhone shots of a proof sheet. Originals are shot with 2 1/4 film in the studio of The Harvey Milk Photo Center in San Francisco 1991 ish. A butoh dancer, a contortionist, a designer, and performance artist she was uncharacteristically shy as a drag queen. But I knew him before the infamy of Phatima Rude of her later days. Just wish Vogue had ask for these beautiful serene pics of this gentle soul. We had a nice collaboration during that chaotic time of the aids plague. The first person I ever discussed the nuances of gender fluidity. She thought of himself as asexual at this time and as long as I gave the pronouns equal ink she didn’t care how I referred to him. RIP my friend and wished we could have had a last show together, a retrospective. You are missed by your many adoring fans.
