When Beast Convoy and Lio Convoy synchronized the power of their energy matrices, they transformed into Burning Convoy and Flash Lio Convoy respectively. Are these types of transformations common among matrix wielders like them? If so, what transformation does Big Convoy possess?

In order to promote cooperation and camaraderie among Convoy-type Transformers, Vector Sigma made a point of outfitting their Energon Matrices with the ability to resonate with each other. However, in one universe, Big Convoy's lingering hate for the Predacons over the death of his father was able to manifest in a sort of phantom resonance with Blue Big Convoy's extinguished Matrix, resulting in the birth of Blizzard Big Convoy.

Wreathed in white fur, Blizzard Big Convoy possessed the ability to supercool the air around him, freezing lesser foes dead in their tracks. In this Absolute Zero Field, only Big Convoy had the strength to still move, leaving him free to devastate his foes with the Blizzard Cannon. This form had none of Big Convoy's traditional bravado, his processors focused only on the elimination of his enemies.

However, as he became lost in his grief, he found himself unable to tell friend from foe, posing great risk to the Gung Ho’s crew of cadets. Only by uniting the warmth of their sparks to resist the cold were they able to embrace their commander and bring him back to the side of justice. It wasn’t until the final battle with Unicron that Big was able to truly master this form, resonating not with his grief, but with the memory of his father, purifying this ability and allowing him to banish the planet eater to the cold of space.

It does indeed. The Builders of Cybertron would carefully graft together the sparks of promising Maximals and Predacons together to create new ones, as a way of trying to bypass relying on the Terran Energon Matrix. The Maximal Windrazor, for instance, had his spark created through grafting fragments of the spark belonging to Dive Bomb, a veteran of the games, together with that of Phantomjaw, a member of the Predacon Secret Police. However, the practice never really caught on, as it required an enormous amount of energon.

After the Grand Uprising, it found new uses—first to create new Maximal and Predacon protoforms, and then in the development of Commandron and Maladroid mind-engrams. While The Beast possessed truly monstrous strength, it was limited by a total lack of intelligence. Furthermore, its tragic massacre of the combined Autobot-Decepticon forces occurred at the end of a protracted battle where both sides were quite weakened. Volcanicus is empowered by both Angolmois and an Energon Matrix, and has exhibited mastery of multiple special moves, powerful weaponry, and a combined intelligence centered around Grimlock with surprisingly little loss of capability compared to other combiners.

What was the name of the Convoy who fought in the Beast Wars, before he attained the Convoy rank?

He had always been known as “Convoy”, as it turns out. He was named as such due to his resemblance to his legendary predecessor, and Convoy did not truly become a “rank” for Cybertrons again until long after his passing. As for why he resembled Convoy so, the only explanations can be divine providence and his Energon Matrix, which had been bestowed upon him by Vector Sigma, then known as the “Oracle”.
