Because a greater dragon's magery skill can exceed 100, the additional 4% skill penalty upon paralyze-taming is a serious detriment to the post-tame performance potential of the dragon.

Kitiara from UOCraft demonstrates how to use peacemaking to tame a rune beetle. Because a rune beetle's poisoning skill can be above 100/GM, it is best not to use the paralyze spell when taming them. Paralyze-taming results in an additional 4% penalty off of the beast's skills, and in the case of skills above 100, that 4% cannot be reclaimed by training. Peacemaking works very well for taming these creatures.
