Trying to get a moment by yourself in a place full of needy people.

This time I actually edited !

After a long mission you were tired, you just wanted one moment by yourself self ,but that was going to be hard in a place like this.

You’re walking to the front of the cleaners base. You see Enjin standing next to Semui probably yapping about how he lost another hot chic.

(Stupid Enjin)

And you didn’t want to hear about it. You see Semui’s gaze fall on you she knows everything. Then Enjin turns his head to see what she is staring at.

You quickly move behind a building and wait about five minuets praying Semui doesn’t say anything to Enjin about seeing you.

As soon as you think you are back to the safe zone you run to the back of the headquarters. Seeing the door to the common room thinking you finally have achance to catch a break.

Though that thought really didn’t last long as a certain red head jumped down from her window upon your arrival.

“ Whatcha doing?”

“ Oh- uhh Riyo how are you doing ?”

“ Fine what are you doing out back ?”

Oh no she caught you! You need to make up an excuse quick !like right now!

“ I was just taking out the trash- But uh- ah-! forgot the trash yeah I forgot the trash inside I was just checking the weather! let me go grab it !”

With that you go running into the headquarters.

Lucky you. The room you run into is the common room which today is the food room and it smells ? It smells like

Cookies? Who cooked cookies ?

Then it clickes

Rudo- the food obsessed new cleaner guy. You ran into another dead end!

“ Oh I cooked cookies do you want some? I also have some question about the cleaners too, mind if I ask ?” Rudo looked down while asking. How cute a shy guy.

Snapping back to reality you respond with “ OH Rudo! What was that-“

All of a sudden you feel a tug on your shirt and you see sweet little Dear. He probably smelt the cookies and came here to snatch them up before Rudo.

Suddenly you think about how those cookies were made.

Lost in thought about how those cookies were even made and if they were safe to eat. The cleaner avengers suddenly assembles on you.

Riyo probably sensing that something is wrong comes in through the back door .

Hearing the commotion team child pokes there heads up from there drawings.

Enjin walks in the front door also probably smelling the cookies.

And you can hear August before you can see him.

With of the people suddenly drawn to you. You need to escape so you bust out how you lost your jinki and ran off

“ Where’s my jinki?!—“ you yell it out making commotion but the thing is your jinki are on your feet. They are your roller blades . You run out before anyone could notice and understand what was going on.

The only door that was not blocked by one of the cleaners was the door to the training room.

Guess who’d you find there ?

There you find a sweaty Zanka training with his lovey staff. He turns around sensing you and then he sees you. He hides his head to stop the blushing on his face. Because He has to keep up the facade of non chalant .

“Oh I was just practicing I made a new move wanna see-?“

He can feel the wind of you skating pass him before he can even understand what just happened.

Desperately trying to go to your room skating through the base you bumb into Follo who was lost in thought looking at his hammer .

Both of you guys fall flat on your butt you could say you guys were butt hurt haha 🤣 ha ha.

Anyways

“Follow are you okay?! I did not mean to do that!” You explain basically shrieking it out.

“ yeah I’m okay”

“ that’s great to hear you didn’t get hurt ! I used my jinki with out thinking ! “

You help him up and grab his hammer . As soon as he is on his feet you just start running to your room.

Poor Follo there is just standing still ( he scratches his butt because it hurts )

Back to the story

You finally make back to your room take your shoes off change your clothes and pass out on your bed .

The next morning you wake up and everyone is staring at you …

You always had been someone distant…hadn't you?

Because Zanka always thought you kept your distance from others simply because you didn't like being around people too much; because you needed time alone, because you valued your personal space, and because you preferred to keep a certain distance from everyone else by choice.

He never imagined the real reason behind any of it.

He never imagined that the real reason you seemed to hate people, hate physical contact, and even hate yourself came from something much deeper than anyone could have imagined.

At first, Zanka simply respected your distance.

He didn't ask unnecessary questions. He didn't try to sit beside you when it was obvious you wanted to be alone, and above all, he never tried to touch you without warning you first. Over time, that made you start trusting him.

You let him sit near you during breaks, you walked side by side after missions, the two of you began talking a little more than usual, and you even started looking for him whenever you needed company, although you would never truly admit it.

Zanka didn't comment on it either, because he was simply there, comfortable with all of it, with your friendship.

And perhaps that was why you began feeling comfortable around him, too.

Until that happened, that strange situation that completely changed the way he perceived things.

The first time Zanka noticed that there was something truly strange behind your behavior was during a mission.

You had managed to complete it successfully, and Enjin, as always, decided to congratulate the team in the most enthusiastic way possible.

"Good work!" His cheerful voice echoed through the place as he approached you.

A hand landed on your shoulder, a simple gesture of congratulations, nothing strange.

Nothing that would have caught anyone's attention. Except that your body reacted before your mind could.

A sharp smack echoed much louder than expected through the space you all shared.

The silence was immediate. Everyone was stunned, especially Enjin.

But Zanka wasn't looking at Enjin's hand. He was looking at you, because it was the first time he had seen something different in your eyes.

It wasn't anger. It wasn't something difficult to identify, considering that you all spent your days on the brink of death; many lived with fear, while others were here for their own reasons.

Fear.

There was fear.

Pure and absolute fear.

Your eyes were wide as you took a couple of steps backward, breathing heavily. And then it seemed as though you finally realized what you had just done.

"I'm sorry... I... I was startled. I apologize." Your voice came out low and broken.

Enjin immediately raised both hands. "It's okay. Don't worry about it."

But you had already moved away.

And from that day on, Zanka began paying closer attention. He didn't say anything, didn't bring it up, and didn't make any comments about it. He respected you, and he wasn't paying more attention because he distrusted you. It was quite the opposite, actually. The real reason was that there was something in his mind that didn't make sense, something that simply didn't fit, at least not completely.

He had started noticing small details he had overlooked before: the way you tensed whenever someone approached too quickly, how you avoided letting anyone stand behind you, how your expression changed whenever someone tried to grab your wrist.

How, after reacting violently, you were always the one who ended up apologizing.

And Zanka started doing something he had never done with anyone else, but had no problem doing with you if it could keep him from seeing that pure terror reflected in your beautiful eyes again; he started warning you before approaching you.

"I'm going to walk behind you."

"I'm going to take that."

"Can I?"

At first, it seemed strange to you, but eventually, you simply got used to it. Without realizing it, you began trusting him even more.

Because with Zanka, you didn't have to constantly be on guard.

If you were sitting beside him, you didn't have to worry about him suddenly touching you.

If he noticed you were uncomfortable, he would move away... If you said "no," he wouldn't ask why. He would simply accept your answer.

And to you, that meant more than he could ever imagine.

The closeness between the two of you grew slowly, so slowly that neither of you knew exactly when it had happened.

Until after a more difficult mission, Zanka saw you react again.

And this time, it was worse, so much so that even he could feel the fear that coursed through your entire body, because someone had tried to grab you from behind. Your body moved before you could think.

One hit, followed by another, then another.

And another.

When you finally realized who was standing in front of you, you froze. Your hands were trembling and your breathing was uneven.

"I..."

Zanka stood in front of you, completely stunned, without even having an idea of what to say or do. A Supporter quickly approached the man, but Zanka didn't come any closer.

He didn't try to stop you. He simply stayed where he was.

"Easy," he said quietly, seeing the pure terror in your eyes.

"I didn't mean to..."

"I know."

"I didn't want to do that."

"I know."

You lowered your gaze. "It's just that when someone..." Your voice broke.

Zanka waited. He didn't pressure you to continue. He didn't want to, but after a few seconds, you finally spoke on your own.

"When someone touches me like that... I'm not here."

Zanka frowned slightly. "What do you mean?"

You swallowed hard, your fingers clenching tightly. You could almost feel the skin of your palms beginning to break beneath the pressure of your nails.

"I'm there again."

Those words were enough, because he understood. Zanka didn't need you to explain anything else, nor did he need to know every detail.

Because everything began falling into place, one piece at a time, like pieces of a puzzle, and all he could feel was a strange pressure against his chest as his heart ached; the way you avoided contact, how you reacted to certain situations.

The fear. That damned fear, and the damned guilt you felt afterward for simply defending yourself.

He understood. He truly did. Every part of it... Zanka understood that your aggression had never been hatred. It was a response caused by fear, pure and real, the shell your mind had created for you.

It was your body trying to protect you from something that had already happened.

"...Did someone hurt you?"

You didn't answer, but he knew...

Zanka lowered his gaze slightly.

There was no pity in his eyes, nor disgust, least of all disgust... Only a silent understanding that made your eyes begin to burn.

"I..." You tried to speak, but you couldn't. Every word formed a tangled knot of incoherence that didn't even dare allow a sound to escape your mouth.

Zanka remained several steps away. "You don't have to tell me."

You looked up. "I don't?"

"No... But..." He paused. "If you ever want to, I'll listen."

Your lips trembled. "What if I hit you without meaning to?"

"Then I'll let you and step away."

The answer was so simple that it almost made you laugh through your tears.

Zanka watched you for a few seconds before adding, "And I'll wait until you want me to come back."

That was what finally broke you, and the tears began falling before you could stop them.

Zanka didn't come closer. He didn't try to hug you, nor did he extend his arms.

He simply stayed there, waiting. Waiting for you.

And you were the one who took a small step toward him, the one who decided to come closer. When you finally stopped in front of him, Zanka did absolutely nothing except wait for you.

Your trembling hand eventually grasped the fabric of his uniform lightly.

Zanka lowered his gaze toward your fingers, then looked back at you. For the first time in a long time, you didn't feel the need to pull away, because he wasn't trying to take your fear away. He wasn't trying to "fix" you.

He was simply showing you that he could stay, and that with him, you would never have to apologize for trying to protect yourself.

Imagine zanka with a influential rich reader, like someone from Kamuatari District, perhaps from a alliance between the Nijiku Family & Reader's Family, and reader is just as strict and firm as zanka's sister, which causes a lot of conflicts between them, because zanka gets reminded of his not-so-great past meanwhile reader is just looking out for him with manipulative ways.

But still, reader spoils him even after rough discussions, making zanka feel the need to stay close to reader if he desires to have his necessities properly attended (like hunger).

your past together hadn't been great. a bunch of forced meetings, training sessions and studying together to 'build an alliance'.

your present together wasn't going great either. Zanka was suffering under the weight of your 'care', even more of your own success.

when zanka left the hell guards he thought he was finally free. it's a big step and one long overdue for — he wasn't made for hell guards. he wasn't good enough.

unlike someone.

the alliance had started between your family and the nijiku one when both you and zanka were young, roughly 10 years old. but for two prestigious families like yours, 10 was old enough to force expectations onto, with a very high bar for what was 'acceptable'.

zanka had been paired up with you in every way possible — you, the only child of your family and 'a great opportunity to learn' in his mothers words. your family spent a considerably large amount of time in the kamuatari district, and his family a large amount in your own families district.

everytime a meeting happened between the two families, it would be paired with a period of intense training for the youngest children, you and zanka.

and zanka loathed those periods.

first he had to sit through painfully long meetings, pretending like it wasn't boring and made his whole body hurt from the hours of sitting down. then, when the rest of your families tended to more 'important matters', you and zanka were expected to spar together.

however it was mostly like zanka was getting beat up by you, emotionally. while you two shared the same physical strength you had to point out every mistake, every way to improve, even the slightest hunch in his back. it was even more torturous than his sisters training sometimes and zanka slowly began to grow almost fearful of these periods of training, to the point he felt nauseous at the mention of your family name.

when he left that part of his life he was thankful for leaving you too. he never wanted to hear your voice perfecting his form again, ever.

but just his luck, you left to become a cleaner yourself.

he wasn't even aware of it until the rest of team akuta came back from south ward, after the whole information brooker thing. enjin had mentioned someone his age who 'wanted to see him' and 'catch up with a bit of training'.

zanka could only imagine one person who that could be, and alas, a week or so later you had been moved from south ward. not onto zankas team, but even seeing you in the hallways was infuriating.

more so because . . . you were being kind to him?

you hadn't changed at all, no, but now when he wasn't living with the wealth of the nijiku family anymore it was like you . . . pitied him.

at first, it shocked him. then, it did nothing but make him feel insulted.

he wasn't weak, he doesn't need his family!

it was even worse every time he got reminded that you still held contact with own family. brief, barely–there contact, yes, but still contact from a family that cared enough to occasionally reach out and send you money.

despite how you've strayed from their set path for you, they kept the little part of you deep inside their heart still. meanwhile zanka was pushed away and surely forgotten or looked down upon . . .

gosh, he hated you. and gosh, you couldn't leave him alone!

your quiet, but firm, voice broke the otherwise quiet of the training yard just outside cleaners HQ. it was dark outside, the chilly night had settled over the ground hours ago and yet zanka was up training. getting better.

training to get ahead of you.

he stopped at your call of his name, putting the end of lovely assistaff against the ground as he turned his head to look at you over his shoulder. even now, in loungewear, you wore an expensive shirt with your family name on it, engraved over your heart.

once again he felt nauseous, like always when he saw you.

'what.' zankas answer came out quick, gruff, obviously tainted with dislike against you. the rivalry between you two was obvious to anyone and everyone — at least, the rivalry from zankas side.

you were just quiet, watching and dissecting him with your mind most of the time.

'shouldn't you be asleep?' you took a couple steps forward, making zanka huff as he looked at you. 'you'll sleep in late again if you're up at this hour'

always criticising you. always, always he does something wrong! all zanka wanted to do was yell at you to leave him the fuck alone, but he knew how that looked when you were just 'giving him tips'. he wasn't going to let you win, not even this.

'you're awake too' zanka looked away from you, back to lovely as he changed his grip on her from a fighting stance to a more casual one.

'i don't need the recovery you do' zanka visibly jumped when your voice came from so close, leaning over his shoulder when you were just across the yard.

not only that, but your words was like a knife being twisted in his stomach on top of the already existing nausea. yeah, because he needs recovery where you spar for hours as a habit, not training.

'i'm doing fine' zanka made sure to take a step away from you, watching you stand in your place with the same perfect posture and unreadable expression you always have worn on your face.

'you're clearly not as good as you should be' your head tilted to the side, and zanka had to hold back from swinging at you. 'you can't even see your own limits. do you understand how much of your power you're wasting on chasing perfection you can't achieve?'

yeah, no, zanka was more mature than to lash out on you over this. he simply scoffed, mumbling something in reply about the usual 'i'm fine' he keeps trying to believe in himself, before walking past you to go inside.

fast. way too fast for it to be normal, but he was sure he was going to throw up soon if you looked at him for one more second.

he was pathetic and you kept bothering him . . . helping him in some sort of fucked up way that was earily close to how kyouka used to 'help' him.

but it's not that easy to avoid you, truly.

zanka had lost basically all his privileges when leaving the nijiku family behind. no money, no one to confide in that wasn't tied to his job.

he loved his team, he truly did, but he hated asking for help and especially when he needed to ask for help from people who already saved him during missions and helped his pathetic ass survive. and no amount of appreciation can pay the bills, or more importantly, food and basic necessities.

you could do that though. you were still in contact with your family, was still seen as a part of your family, still carried your family name like a badge of honor, despite your . . . 'questionable career path'.

and it seemed like you had no other way to spend the money you received from them than to spoil zanka.

shampoo, satiating snacks and proper wood polish with a homemade meal on the side, put together with expensive ingredients you had gathered together on your day off.

zanka felt horrible.

more nauseous than normal.

but what could he do? you kept inviting him to your dorm room — not even insisting he comes, never begging or such. you were just very clear with what you expected from him . . . and he was contitioned to listen, like always.

he stared at you across the small table, both of you kneeling on the floor while quietly eating together.

you looked so calm. moments like these made him feel kinda safe, before the memories of the past washed over him again and he had to hold back a noise of discomfort and disgust.

the noodles were good though . . . that made it worse. all these gifts, the food he needed desperately when the cleaners rations didn't satisfy him and the wood polish for lovely.

he needed to set some sort of boundary between you two, but . . . he couldn't bring himself too. especially not when you look at him like that, not even focusing on the food.

especially not when you reach out to hold his face in your hands, softened by expensive hand cream.

especially not when you look into his eyes, and zanka sees nothing but a quiet determination to push him until he feared comfort and knew nothing but exhaustion, conditioned to love him in the only cruel way you've both ever known.

can you tell i had to shorten a lot of parts down ? my work is getting sloppier . . . but i like writing a reader who is a very morally gray person ^ ^ thank you sm for the request anon !

The barracks were quiet tonight. Moonlight filtered through the broken windowpane, casting long, sharp shadows across the floorboards of your room. For once, the chaotic energy of the Cleaners had settled, leaving an atmosphere heavy with a silent, all-encompassing tension.

You were sitting on a small stool, cleaning your boots. Suddenly, a large, firm hand closed over yours, halting your movement.

"That’s enough work," Zanka ordered. His voice was low, rough, and utterly commanding.

He stood beside you, forcing you to look up at him. His piercing gaze brooked no argument. Without asking permission, he gripped your waist with possessive strength and effortlessly lifted you onto the desk facing your bed, bringing you level with his eyes. He stepped between your legs, trapping you against his hot, solid body. His proximity was overwhelming...a silent declaration that, tonight, you were under his control.

Before you could process his boldness, the door creaked open slightly. Eishia slipped into the room. Upon seeing the intimate position you shared with Zanka, her cheeks flushed a deep red. She tried to step back, nervously fiddling with the hem of her clothes.

"Oh... I’m sorry, I... I didn’t mean to interrupt," she murmured, her voice trembling and her gaze lowered, too shy to meet your eyes.

"Come in, Eishia," Zanka commanded, never breaking eye contact with you. His tone wasn't an invitation, but an order. "You know perfectly well we were waiting for you."

Eishia swallowed hard; she was visibly nervous yet drawn to the atmosphere. She walked slowly toward you both with timid steps until she stood beside Zanka. Without letting go of you, he extended an arm around her waist, pulling her firmly into the space the three of you shared. Eishia let out a small gasp at the sudden hold but didn't resist; instead, she pressed against Zanka’s side, seeking refuge in his strength while looking at you with a mix of shyness and desire.

"You’re very quiet," you said, enjoying the way she blushed even deeper.

"It’s just... you look beautiful in this light," she whispered, gathering a bit of courage. With trembling fingers, she reached out and caressed your calf, slowly tracing her way up your thigh. "I just wanted... to be close to you."

Zanka let out a low laugh, a dark, satisfied sound that vibrated against your chest. He took you by the chin, forcing you to meet his gaze, while Eishia’s fingers continued their suggestive ascent, sending waves of heat coursing through your body.

"Tonight, you won’t think of anything but us," Zanka declared, leaning in until his lips brushed against yours, stealing your breath away. "Forget the outside world."

Seeking the security of Zanka’s presence, Eishia stayed close as the quiet of the room enveloped the three of you. In that moment of calm, the intensity of the day’s work faded into the background, replaced by a silent connection and the shared understanding between you.

Being Zanka’s girlfriend but MY TAKE

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.

Zanka is a nice guy but he is also and asshole. I think he would treat his partner as kindly and at his most gentle capacity possible.

He has never really been “taken care of” by someone he cared so much about before, like Riyo and Enjin found him and Enjin was his idol but you were so much more than that.

He got giddy thinking about you and you had this way of twisting things he saw as bad into something he could be proud of.

Like how you were all in the car back from a mission, it was Gris driving, you in the passenger seat with Zanka, tomme and follo in the back. Usually you two would sit together but the three latter were a lot more tired than you and Gris so you two chatted in the front.

When Zanka was nodding of against the car window ready to pass out he hears you say something that stuck with him.

“I don’t get the shame with scars and that like I have so many from fights and missions and I am PROUD! Besides everyone with scars are hotter”

“It’s like a power thing, like I almost died and I’m still here” Gris adds onto it with his own enthusiasm.

“You get me dude!”

And after that Zanka didn’t feel as much shame when he had to go to the infirmary. He loved you and the way you see things so if you believe that scars are positive then they have to be! So now if he ever got a scar after a mission he is being a lil freaky with it.

‘Is Y/N gonna think I’m cooler now??! EEEEK’

“Whatcha thinkin’ bout buuuddddyy?”

We all know he loves being praised and complimented due to his low view on himself but you actively always choosing to be next to him feels like a win every time, WHO CARES IF YOU ARE HIS PARTNER YOU LOVE HIM SO SO MUCH HE COULD CRY! (You sat next to him)

Now here comes a full three times Zanka realizes he won in life!

1. He was in the dining hall and there were surprisingly a lot of cleaners in there eating their last meal of the night. Enjin, Gris and Bro were all being loud and laughing at the end of a long table while scarfing down their food, Riyo and semiu were chatting as they loaded up their plates and Remlin was spending the night with the other kids so they, Rudo, Guita, dear and Amo were sitting together and screaming like the adults taking care of them.

He was waiting for you to show up, even if you went to talk to the girls or the kids or throw in a comment with the older guys. Zanka wanted to make sure you were eating before he started so if he noticed you forgot to go eat he could go fetch you without stopping his meal time straight away.

Then a plates clatters next to him.

“Hm?” A little kiss makes it onto his cheek making him blush immediately.

“Hey babe, how has today been treating you?”

Okey now you guys celebrated your one year anniversary like 3 weeks ago, statistically and arguably he should not feel giddy you say next to him. AND HE DOES NOT.

But you holding his hand across the table does.

“Rudo ‘s bein’ a pain in my ass-“

You guys were on your way to a mission and it was gonna be a long ass drive. About 2 hours so enjin and Gris agreed, let everyone chill out and sleep the first safer hour but the second Enjin will drive to keep everyone awake.

So as you all make your way to the car Zanka opened the door and jumped in to take the middle seat so you could have window.

“Actually babe can I sit middle?” Which made him question why because you always wanted to look out the window to mission but he jumps out and lets you climb in.

“Sure but I thought you liked looking out the window?”

“Nah I like leaning against the window.” Zanka jumps in after you as you both fastened you seat belts “but I sleep better if I lean on you anyways, the glass hurts after a while”

Then you leaned on his shoulder and he could hear Enjin and Gris snickering at him but like-

He did NOT care.

3.

When there are rainstorms instead of trash storms it was actually peaceful. People could easily get better drinking water and the few places of green could bloom a bit stronger.

And again HE KNOWS HE IS BEING RIDICULOUS BUT LET HIM BE, every time it would rain at night you would run over to his room if you weren’t already there because you claimed “rain cuddles hit different”. So now every time he hears the rain he waits up until you notice, because it like a you want it and he is happy to supply but like- like.. like it’s- you that wants it the most.

Besides it’s one of the quiet reminders that you will seek him out for comfort and gawd DAMN IT he loves to be wanted by you!

But it’s getting kinda late and you haven’t show up yet so either you weren’t in the mood (not possible) or you fell asleep before it started (very possible). So he kinda gave up and fixed his bedding to tuck himself in and fall asleep- a bit disappointed but eh you can’t win em all.

KNOCK KNOCK

Well apparently you can.

Because you come rushing in and dramatically close the door with both your arms fully extended making you lose balance, ending up wiping out and slamming your ass you the ground.

“Pfft- babe what are you doing?”

Before you answer you skaddle up from the floor to his bed and rip open the sheets to dive in this bed and wrap your arms and legs around him.

“Now you listen here, motherfucker and you listen good” You say as you put your forehead right onto his giving you two cyclops vision of each other.

“Okey- pfft-!” Zanka was trying so hard not to laugh as you looked at him with a dead serious expression.

“If we ever get night rain ever again and I almost fall asleep I need you to get my ass here as fast as you can or I am gonna assume you don’t love me- you do love me don’t you??”

“HAHahahha!… ha.. hehe.. More than anything.. <3”

Then you nuzzle in under his chin.

“Good cuz I sure as heck ain’t letting you go!”

the lights were off, the room silent and your body sore from a rough day of training.

you were doing it again. purposely trying to quiet the part inside you that kept hurting in the only way you know — by forcing your body into constant pain, into constant movement and exhaustion.

you laid silently on the bed with your thoughts running 180 miles an hour. over and over you replayed those memories, thought over those times that have passed and what you wish you could do to those around you when it became too much.

the physical exhaustion kept you in check.

everyone around you tried to diagnose you with some sort of mental disorder, like this was a way to hurt yourself, when in reality you were saving them from your own hands.

the only one who got you was zanka. curled up against your side, his own exhaustion already having put him to sleep. these quiet moments with him was the only thing that made you calm down without forcing your body to keep fighting.

and you know that these nights were the only thing that made zankas own head quiet down for a bit.

because he’s supposed to be showing himself to you, and not you showing up for him.

it gets more awkward as the days go by, and zanka decided maybe it’s time for him to stop his crushing on you so he can function again like a real person. he can’t afford to be distracted in his job, he said.

“zanka,” you called out to zanka, but the blond kept walking away, fast in his feet.

you ran after him, and once you’ve caught up to him, you grabbed his wrist and forced him to face you.

“have you been ignoring me?”

“what? no, i— sorry, i’ve got to go to august.”

“zanka.”

he sighs in defeat. “yes?”

“wrong way.” you then pointed to your back, the right way to where august is always coped up.

“right.” zanka nods in embarrassment. “right, yes, there. thank you.”

he didn't dare look at you as he made his way towards you. and as he passed by, you called out again.

“i like you too,” you blurted out.

it was a bargain. or at least, that's what you thought when you first went over your plan to just randomly confess to this awkward boy. until riyo couldn't bear to see you both pining for each other anymore and just snitched on zanka to tell you that he was head over heels for you.

“w…what?” zanka looked back at you like you just told him you were leaving the cleaners.

“i like you. too,” you repeated.

zanka's eyes widened in understanding, completely ignoring the fact that you were implying you knew all along that he liked you too.

you nodded with a smile, restraining your laughter. oh, how cute he is. “sure.”

a huge, beautiful and genuine smile formed on zanka's face.

you nodded cautiously, though you still had a huge grin on your face.

zanka felt rage come up to his head, remembering clearly how riyo promised to not tell a single soul about what he felt towards you… not even you.

It had taken Zanka fifteen days to finish the doodles he was drawing for you.

After every training session, he would lock himself in his room and sit at his desk with a single thought. To be able to capture your beautiful smile on paper.

But he wasn’t really good at it. And that frustrated him.

You, on the other hand, were an artist in every sense of the word; even Remlin would wander around the HQ just to draw with you and chat about their upcoming murals.

"Knock, knock," you said, opening the door to Zanka's room one of those nights. He was sitting at his desk, surrounded by crumpled paper balls overflowing from the trash can next to him. He was clutching his head with both hands, holding a small pencil in one of them. You could have sworn you saw him wanting to pull his hair out. "Zanka, what's wrong?"

He startled; he hadn't heard you come in, and as you approached the desk, he could only cover what he was doing with his body.

"Nothing, nothing," he said quickly. "What are you doing here?" His voice sounded higher than usual.

"I was waiting for you for dinner; everyone asked about you." You placed your hand on his shoulder and tried to peek through the small gaps he left open. "What do you have there?"

You were faster than he expected and managed to grab the small sheet from his desk. He tried to snatch it out of your hands, but besides being fast, you were agile and managed to dodge all his attempts, letting out a few laughs in the process.

When you finally got good lighting and could take a proper look at what he was doing, your eyes widened more than usual, your mouth formed a big "oh," and Zanka's face twisted in embarrassment.

"Don't look at it, please," he hid his face in his hands, flopping down onto the bed.

"Zanka, this is..."

"Don't say anything, I shouldn't have done it in the first place."

"It's so pretty," you finally let out. You sat next to him and encouraged him to look at you. "It's me, right? It turned out perfect."

He looked at you through his fingers, covering his flushed cheeks and clearing his throat.

"Are you kidding?" he grumbled. "Those doodles?"

"Yes, you have talent," you told him with a smile, though in reality, you wanted to choke back a laugh. The drawing itself wasn't perfect, but he had made it for you, so of course it was a masterpiece.

You leaned in to kiss his cheek, and he smiled for you. After you repeatedly told him he had done a great job, he finally stood up with pride and accepted all the kisses you had for him.

After that day, the two of you would gather some afternoons in your room to draw whatever together. Zanka even accepted a few tips to keep improving and be able to give you "something worthy of you," in his own words.
