it was another boring saturday. it was a rainy day as the raindrops pattered on the windows.
jay and you were cuddled up on the couch of the dorm, letting the tv play re-runs of older dramas
you were indulged in boys over flowers on screen while jay was scrolling through social media. hours of mindless watching turned into hours of mindless talking and the useless game of truth or truth.
truth or truth was exactly what it sounded like, just truth or dare without the dare. honestly, it was just asking question back and forward.
some lighthearted question were tossed around until you had one pop into your mind.
“can you tell when i’m jealous?” you ask.
jay, who was about to put the popcorn in his mouth, threw a piece at you, “of course i can! you’re so obvious!”
“NO I AM NOT”
“YES YOU ARE”
“AM NOT”
“ARE TOO”
“AM NOT”
“THEN EXPLAIN LAST WEEK, AT THE NEW CAFE”
flashback to two weeks ago at the new cafe
jay decided to bring you to a new cafe that was opening near his dorm.
“i heard that the americanos are really good so i wanted to try it- babe what are you looking at?” jay stops, seeing you look into the cafe window.
the cafe was minimalistic and only a few people, including the workers, occupied the inside.
right at the desk nearest to the window, you saw a classmate of yours sipping on her iced coffee with books sprawled all over the small desk. you were impressed that the table could support all of those heavy textbooks.
you didn’t dislike her or like her. you had neutral feelings about her.
she was really nice person and always carried a good amount in group projects but if she was paired up with guys, she was really touchy with them.
she was touchy with you and her girlfriends but it wasn’t the same touchy with guys.
maybe that was just your perspective of her, but you were sure she meant no harm
now, you trust jay but it was the some thoughts that popped in the back of your head.
jay’s voice shakes you out of your small trance.
“hey, hey, are you okay? do you not feel well? we can go home if you don’t feel well,” jay’s eyebrows furrow. he faces you and lightly places his hand on your forehead.
“well you’re not running a fever-”
“i’m fine jay,” you smile.
“are you sure?”
he corks his right eyebrow to make sure and you nod, squeezing his hand to reassure him that you’re okay.
he smiles, giving your hand a responding squeeze before dragging you into the cafe. you were crossing your fingers that she wouldn’t be able to see you if you hid right behind jay.
“please don’t recongnize me, please don’t-”
“oh my gosh! is that you (y/n)?”
“dang it, pull it together”
“oh my gosh nari! hi, how are you?” you fake-smile, coming out from behind jay.
“i’ve been good! how have you been? who is this handsome guy?” she smirks, and you swear you see her wink at jay.
you fiddle with jay’s rings with your enclosed hands, feeling uncomfortable
“this is my boyfriend, jay,” you introduce him.
jay extends his hand and nari reaches out to shake it. jay smiles, trying to let go of her hand but she kept it in her grip for a little longer before letting go.
“oh? boyfriend? i see, could have done better,” she mumbles under her breath.
“what was that-”
“nothing! sadly i have to go since my mom needs me but it was nice to see you (y/n) and jay, let’s talk later,” she smiles.
“see you around nari!” you exclaim.
the bells above the door jingle and you left a breath out of relief.
“your friend? what’s her name? “ jay asks
did he not notice her flirting with him?
“her name is nari, same major as me,” you say, your voice faltering.
“nari, alright,” he mumbles
you could feel a slight pang in your heart when jay asked for her name.
was he interested in her? was it insecure thoughts or jealousy? jay probably just wanted to get to know your friend.
“let’s go order,” jay switches the topic.
before you could say anything, jay is already in the front of the line.
you decide to just find a seat because jay already knows your order. you try to shake the thoughts off but you can’t help it.
“excuse me? i would like to order,” jay calls out, standing in front of an empty cashier.
“coming!” a voice calls back before hurried footsteps are heard.
“woah you’re handsome,” a higher pitch voice gasps.
you turn to see a beautiful girl behind the counter, her eyes widen at the presence of jay.
nope it’s jealousy
you groan because you hated the feeling of being jealous. not was it only pointless. but it left you feeling drained.
you look over again to see her and jay laughing along.
you slump further in your seat, feeling defeated. jay was yours but why did it feel like he was so far away?
“here,” jay comes from behind you, handing you your favorite drink.
you immediately knock off the slump and sit up straight with a forced smile.
“thank you,” you reply.
he sits down in front of you before taking off his jacket and rests it on the back of the chair.
“so, why are you jealous?” he smirks and you choke on your drink.
“i’m not jealous! what are you talking about?” you retort back, grabbing a napkin to dab your mouth.
“so that, my beautiful girlfriend, is a lie. the way that you looked at nari and the cashier was the looks of burning green,” he clicked his tongue.
“how couldn’t i? everybody is drooling over you while i just stand their like your assistant,” you pout.
“i knew nari was flirting with me so i decided to tease you a little,” he snorts
“and the me and the cashier were talking because she was interested in YOU,” he continues.
“me?” you point at yourself.
“yes you idiot. when we entered, she couldn’t help but think you’re really pretty and then i had to explain that we were dating and blah blah,” he explains.
“oh,” you say.
outside, you were trying to keep your cool because you were so embarrassed. on the inside, you were punching yourself.
“SOMEONE LITERALLY MAKE ME DISAPPEAR RIGHT NOW”
“OH MY GOSH IM AN IDIOT”
“so you’re not jealous anymore, right?” jay glances over
you groan and glare at him, “ i can’t believe i got jealous for you.”
“that’s not nice, what did i do?” he frowns.
“you-you- hmph,” you sigh.
at this point, you didn’t have anything to say. you were just embarrassed and your brain was all jumbled.
“whatever, is the cashier still interested in me?”
“HEY-”
flashforword to two weeks later
replaying the scene, you feel your cheeks heat up from embarrassment. you tilt your head at the thought of jay’s victory smirk, proving that he was right.
“though you are obvious,” he starts
“it’s really cute because it means you’re scared to lose me,” he sticks his tongue out.
“i never said that. i could get with whoever i want,” you huff.
“i’m going to call sunghoon,” you rise up before jay grabs you by the waist and swings his leg over your legs.
“you’re not going anywhere,” he holds you tight.
“so now who’s jealous?”
