Brian Eno's 10's also provided us with a multitude of surprises as we can all observe. I mean, I assume no one would have guessed he would've worked with Karl Hyde that quickly again, though he did and the result, High Life, is better than Someday World. Then again, the disc has a certain looseness, because the LP could be seen as the sound of two musicians who are fully relaxed after their debut collaboration that put a lot of pressure on them, so they decided to go wild in a way only these two can. Brian Eno seems to be less serious this time around, which might be the reason High Life feels like one of his best. Sadly, he and Hyde haven't done anything since then, yet they might shock us soon, though isn't this expected with Mr. Eno?

Brian Eno's 10's may have done many things to his incredible career with the collaborations being the examples of this. For instance, he did Someday World with Karl Hyde of Underworld, which finds him in one of his singer modes he used more in the period than before. Sure, he could always be described as a musical polymath, though I would suggest the works from the 10's really showed this and Someday World presents that succinctly. You see, the already mentioned disc sort of moves within their own understanding of rock as you can hear in the link. True, you can claim they belong to a category, where the player mix rock with electronica, but they do this in a way you can only point towards Mr. Eno. Yes, the era solidified his sound as we shall see later on.

While late style displays, if I understood Edward Said correctly, a sense of displacement, this does not suggest the submission to despair. Brian Eno's current records reveal such characteristics, becuase Brain One stands his ground with them. He might no longer be the same trailblazer of his 70's, but he does keep some of that hallmarks, though they are repositioned differently. His two collaborations with Karl Hyde, Someday World and High Life, superficially resemble some of his vocal work from the earlier stages of his career, but they possess an interesting contradiction that couldn't have occurred on Here Come The Warm Jets. On the one hand Eno is in his full elder statesman mode on them, yet on the other he continues to be up to date with the modern indietronica trends he does not subvert that much on both of his cooperations with Hyde. However, they do profess a certain defiance that Eno would not be able to achieve in his prior phase of rebellion.

Given the fact that Andy Mackay worked on solo albums by his band mate Phil Manzanera, we should not be surprised he did the same for the most famous Roxy peer of his after Ferry, i.e. Brian Eno. Moreover, he also played on Someday World, Eno's collaborative record with Karl Hyde. While you could assume Mackay would be asked to go full Roxy saxophone on his appearance, you must know Eno likes to choose the road not taken. Thus, the tune in the link presents us with Eno in his current predictably unpredictable mode. Nonetheless, you can notice in a majority of his contemporary piece a concern about the state of the work, you could sense a certain weariness in them. Still, he continues to seek present and past allies to fight that state with his music.
