❝ come to think on it, i’m not hungry after all. ❞
A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE --- not accepting
He has seen the worst parts of you: the god, the animal, the soldier. He has watched you change your shape and put the wounded pieces of yourself back together. He knows exactly what you are and he’s the only person you know---the only one in the entire world---that you think you can trust with that knowledge.
Trusting him shouldn’t come as easily as it does. After all, you know what he is too. You’ve seen him defleshed. You’ve seen him kill. You’ve seen the strange color of his eyes in the night and you’ve seen the careful way he washes blood off of his hands and you’ve even glimpsed his soul once or twice. At least, you think you have.
You make an odd pair, the two of you. Sharply contrasted against each other. He, pale, precise, deliberate. You, dark, wild, haphazard. Yet the reality is that you’re both just two sides of the very same coin.
Somewhere deep down you’re grateful to have met him.
Somewhere deep down you wonder if he feels the same way about you.
The blood dripping from your mouth is not your own; the copper tang of it fills your nostrils until it’s the only thing you can smell. Easy to tempt a wolf with raw meat. Easier still to entice an ancient god with the reek of offered flesh. You’re not always the master of your own instincts and sometimes you give into that divine, primitive desire. Just like you have here and now.
You look at him, then down at the unrecognizable corpse at your feet. Your intended target. It’s a wonder he continues to ask you to work with him. It’s a wonder he’s even comfortable with you.
You lick your lips once and then spit to help clear your senses of the blood-scent.
It’s all you can think to say.
