he presses on his cheek. sealed, but even the slight contact highlights the mold underneath. it's a horrible sensation that occtis tries to ignore. unless he figures something out, this body has an expiration date. occtis nods at the question. the ranger seems unsteady. gods, had he drained him? he hadn't known what he was asking when he asked for it. going where he isn't supposed to, requiring constant healing and protection. it feels like he entails a lot more effort than he's worth. ❝ are you- ❞ -alright? occtis hesitates. some people get defensive when their vulnerability is brought up. ❝ i mean . . . are you hungry? ❞ he turns to his desk. ❝ i still have my breakfast. it's just a bit cold. ❞ the innkeeper had sent him up a plate with the rest — not knowing, of course, that the boy can't eat. he lifts the cloche, revealing eggs, bacon, and an apple.

he blinks, glancing at the wizard out of the corner of his eye. hungry? mmh, no, not quite. kat shakes his head again. "no, that's, uh– that's alright, but. i will, uh–" he leans over, swiping the bacon from the plate. tucks it into his belt with a wink. "wulferic says thanks." then he waves a hand. "i'll be alright, just– magic isn't my strong suit. not like– you lot." no contempt in his voice there, just fact – tops it off with a lopsided grin. "just...glad to see it could help, in...some way."
