ST:ENT FINALE THOUGHTS
Okay. Since its been a day now I feel like my thoughts have solidified enough to comment.
The real Star Trek ENT finale was episode Terra Prime.
Like. That's the finale.
These are the voyages... is cute! Don't get me wrong! I liked it. But... its not a finale. Its a tack on. Its last minute as hell. Its low-key dumb as fuck.
Again. It's cute. I DID like it. But it served no real purpose. Tying into an episode of TNG that didn't need a tie-in.
Killing Trip serves no narrative purpose. Its not like we don't understand death, loss, and the randomness and unfairness of it.
Hello... /gestures to where Florida was/ a lotta people died over the course of these four seasons.
It honestly felt like someone's last-minute demand. Like uh-oh cant let him live cause then we'll get alien hybrids or interspecies romance... or something equally stupid. And yes, I have read about some of their plans if they hadn't been canceled. And maybe I could have accepted him dying in season 5. But as it was. Since there were going to be no other seasons, it was pointless.
It was the single dud of the entire season. (Again, I LIKED IT!) It should have been a mid-season bottle episode - excluding Trips' death. Or a "special" that's out of continuity to give the audience a moment to breathe from an otherwise balls-to-the-wall season.
I don't blame Lower Decks for retroactively giving us Tripol. They knew we fucking deserved it. Even if they had to say it was an alternate universe.
I choose to believe it was our prime universe. Fuck it.
