The fact that he EVEN TRIES THIS
Unsurprising that he associates the electrocution of Prue’s trap with the book.
Phoebe wasn’t there so she didn’t know exactly what happened, and clearly hasn’t connected the electrocution to those crystals.
Meanwhile, you have to admire the fact that Prue had created a trap so painful that Cole is scrambling away, still refusing to touch the book even now. That’s some heavy power right there.
I’VE FIGURED IT OUT!
I’ve figured out why Death is so invested in this moment, why he wants to teach Prue the truth, why he’s giving her so much time!
So many people have lost a bunch of loved ones. Wars, sickness, starvation. Prue has it easy compared to other people out there.
So why does Death take time for this lecture in particular?
BECAUSE HE CAN!!!!
It must be EATING HIM UP that people are blaming him, or are angry at him, or think he’s evil. He’s just there to collect.
And he probably has this rant
All
The
Time
but nobody can hear him. At last, here, he can talk properly with someone who doesn’t need passage to the other side, with someone who’s having a discussion with him “before her time”.
It doesn’t matter that it’s Prue in particular, not really. It’s just the fact that at last he has someone to vent to. And if he can teach just one person this lesson, he’ll feel better.
For a little while, at least.
This part gets me, mmm, maybe 80% of the time. I laugh at Death’s character in this show, but this moment... yeah. It’s a tough one.
Mmm, so the Elders didn’t let Leo get involved so Prue could watch Reece get brutally murdered.
No wonder it doesn’t look like she learnt the fucking lesson
Maybe Death’s not the evil, but the Elders certainly are.
Here’s the moment where Prue slips up and calls Cole an innocent. Cole isn’t sure whether that’s good - I imagine it’s because he may equate innocence with powerlessness.
But that line there. To Prue, no one is more important. It’s drenched in meaning.
To Cole, it means Prue’s accepted him.
To Phoebe, it’s a loving acknowledgement of Prue’s values, a deep understanding of her sister, and it’s said with pride.
To Prue, it’s a reminder that even though Reece died, she had prioritised him. Just because she lost him doesn’t mean she’s lost her sense of purpose.
She is so keen to swoop in to save Cole, only because she knows how annoyed he’ll be at being saved by her
I didn’t quite capture the moment, but Cole stops Prue from kicking the shit out of these demons. And I’m wondering... why?
Why does Cole care? These demons have been a pain for him. Cole probably doesn’t care if you need to kick the shit out of something you hate. And if Prue can let out a bit of anger on someone who’s not him, then what’s the problem?
Is he recognising the rage building up inside her? Is he seeing how it’s taking control, and knows what that feels like? Is it something he would’ve liked someone else to do for him in the past? Or is it all for show, for Phoebe?
I can’t be sure, but I think this moment changes how Prue sees him. Because not long after this, she accidentally slips that she thinks of him as an innocent.
To me, there was a connection between them, right here in these two words. And I’m so interested to know more.
