Talamasca -- 1x02 quick thought
Slight spoilers:
Reluctance with being a spy or not, freaking out over seeing the person you had sex with last night hanging from the ceiling dead or not; if a dying guy in that same room is pointing to a book you noticed earlier in said dead girl's bag, and clearly trying to tell you to take it, then guess what, Guy?
You grab the damn book! 🙄 😑
That Guy didn't grab it is clearly why anything that is about to happen next is going to happen, of course, IMO. That is the only reason the writers didn't have him grab it as he (understandably) ran the hell out of there.
And I kind of hate it when obvious things that should have happened don't, in order to have a plot go a different way instead.
Anyway, given the preview for next week, I'm guessing the book is the 752? And it kind of looks like some kind of codex or something, given the glimpse in the preview of its pages?
All in all, not the strongest episode IMO. Just more setup, but not as well handled as the setting up done in Episode 1x01 IMO. And the club scene, like, because of the promos, I knew that was Olive that came up to Guy and the other girl -- Kevas, I think her name was? -- but it was still weird and off to me.
And with the way Kevas disappeared the morning after, I thought at first she was a spirit or ghost or something like that. Especially wrt her comment about breaking the rules.
But then yeah, I knew it would be her that Guy saw hanging there. But, even so, I still can't help but wonder.
Because yes, ghosts and spirits -- tangible ones at that -- are a thing in this universe. And one thing you learn about the Talamasca in the Prince Lestat trilogy is that, when someone who is in the Talamasca dies, they don't necessarily stop existing in the mortal world afterward.
Anyway, he's hoping next week's episode delves a bit more into this 752 business and what the London Motherhouse is up to, and if that book is the 752 or not. I wouldn't say the story came to a screeching halt this week, but it did feel very slow and more meandering at times, unlike the more tight pacing of Episode 1x01, IMO.
