Eris is some open source software that developers can run on their computers which makes it easy for them to interact with blockchains (start, stop, connect, disconnect and create from scratch etc) in a standardised way, so they don’t have to learn new commands when switching from one blockchain to another. Eris manages the complexity of each individual blockchain type, letting developers focus on building their app.

Seeing the enormous potential for blockchain, PwC studied the space for two years and then established a practice to learn more about the technology. We did this to explore how we could use it to improve our internal business processes, to enhance how we deliver services to our clients, and to create services our clients could use to improve their own businesses. Already, we’ve had two key outcomes from these efforts. We recently released our globally available, on-demand Blockchain Solution Portfolio, and we’ve announced strategic partnerships with three blockchain-based startups; Blockstream, Digital Asset Holdings, and Eris Industries. Eris provides a solid platform for building advanced financial applications based on the of the most interesting and probably misunderstood technologies, namely smart contracts and blockchain. While Eris is mainly intended for all sorts of financial, market-related or on-demand services, it can also provide a valid solution for automating secure processes between multiple organizations or businesses, since the concept of blockchain is by no means limited to Bitcoin associations.
