Speaking of vintage crochet patterns, here’s me talking about them for 17 minutes.
It’s Saturday, so it’s Errata-Hate time! I show you how to cross stitches, which is a fun way to add some texture to your work.
As always, if you enjoy Errata-Hate, please like, share, and/or subscribe.
Errata-Hate has 199 subscribers.
I’ve been on hiatus for awhile just to catch my breath. I was not expecting to GAIN subscribers while I was gone. This is amazing.
A big question
What if, after Errata-Hate episode 100*, I put together a kickstarter that took all the how-tos and turned them into patterns/tutorials? Like, I sit down with all my videos and work back through them to see how I explained things and transfer them to written/charted/illustrated form? I’d probably add some stuff I wrote as patterns but didn’t make it to how-tos as well just to make sure the book is well-rounded and also so people who watch the videos but may be interested in the book get a little extra.
Would that be something people would be interested in? Gonna be honest. It’ll probably be titled, “How I Make Shit.” At least, that’s what it’s titled in my head.
*Recorded an episode today and started work on a how-to. Progress is happening; you just can’t see it yet.
Frustrating Patreon News
Patreon sent out an email yesterday outlining some new policies. One of those policies is that rather than taking processing fees on the back end, they’re going to start charging YOU, my patrons, those fees instead.
I’m not okay with this for two reasons: 1) Patreon has always subtracted processing fees from pledges and shown that difference to patrons. The amount you see in the progress bar is the actual amount of money I take in after fees. So, I know where I am, and so do you. 2) Asking patrons to pay above what they’ve already pledged isn’t fair. Yes, they’re going to tell you about it before they start (they say an email will go out tomorrow and the fees will start incurring on the 18th), but if you support multiple people on patreon, those fees are going to add up quickly and it may require some people to have to drop pledges.
Here’s the thing: the number one pledge type that keeps creators working is the $1 pledge. The $1 pledge is the most reliable pledge level in the whole system, and I know creators who make a full living off their patreons who swear by it. It’s why I’m such a fan of it myself. However, the people who will get hit hardest with these fees are the $1 pledges because, in general, people who pledge a dollar per project pledge to a LOT of projects.
I don’t have a good answer for how I’m going to handle this. I’m currently on the waitlist to try Drip, which is Kickstarter’s version of Patreon. I’ve seen good things coming out of the early adopter trials, but I can’t say when I’ll have access to create my own account.
I just want you to know if you pledge to the patreon or were planning to, it’s not going to cost the round numbers it used to.
Errata-Hate, episode #42 is up! I walk you through Blueprint Crochet Sweaters. It’s pretty rad.
(Also, I swear I thought today was Saturday. I have no idea how I skipped two days this week. I blame crocheting.)
Anyway, as always, if Errata-Hate is something you dig, please share and consider dropping a couple of bucks in the ko-fi. It helps cover costs in a major way.
Phasma dress idea. Gray and black with a red stripe at an angle and around the bottom edge to mimic the way Phasma’s cape lies.
I’m thinking a circular yoke, cap sleeves, and a flared skirt to play with a cape-like shape. I’d love to do it in Knitpicks Galileo in Gosling, Black, and Valentine. I’d need about 1500 yards. That’d required 12 skeins, which at full price, would be about $60. There’s a sale right now, so I could get a deal, but I don’t have yarn cash right now.
If you wanna see this show up as a how-to on Errata-Hate and help cover yarn costs, you can drop a couple bucks in the Errata-Hate ko-fi. There’s an option to leave a note, just say you wanna see the Phasma how-to, and I’ll put the money in that bucket.
I’m the dumbass who decided to single crochet a sweater in fingering weight. Like, once the details go on, it’ll be amazing. But OMG I AM SO BORED.
This is the shit I do for Errata-Hate, folks. The not-fully-thought-out-shit.
