I don't think juries should be abolished entirely in Eurovision but I think they should be required to judge songs on two main criteria:
folklore
rock and roll
This will solve all problems and make everything fair.

problems with the juries in eurovision:
radio friendly pop songs and ballads are the only songs they uplift, at the expense of more unusual songs that are genuinely good
votes decided by panels of 5 people can overpower votes given by millions of people, like how their votes pushed sweden to the top despite them not even getting a 12 points from the public in any country. them giving sweden twice as many jury votes made it near impossible for finland, the clear favourite of the public to win despite receiving many 12 points
problems with getting rid of the juries
there would be nothing stopping people voting trolls into the final, like in the awful era of eurovision which was full of trashy gimmicks bc of people voting them into the final as a joke
televoting only would heavily benefit countries with large diasporas bc ppl would just vote for their country of origin regardless of song quality (already happens to an extent even with juries). countries with many emigrants would be guaranteed qualifiers, whereas some countries wouldn't have a chance
if the voting portion is just the spokespeople announcing the televotes it will be less suspenseful and more predictable
so clearly the jury system isn't working, but not having them has historically resulted in the final being trash. so what do we do?
my opinions on how to solve the problem
increase the jurors from 5 to 10 to get a wider variety of opinions
have people who represent different genres so that songs of certain genres aren't unfairly punished for being different, instead of jurors who only appreciate non-threatening pop and ballads
have jurors who are experts in different areas of music, like a vocal expert, a dance expert, a composition expert, etc
be able to have acts go again if there's a technical problem with their performance, like in 2019 when the jury couldn't see part of norway's act due to a technical issue and they couldn't go again, resulting in them receiving a low jury score despite having one of the best songs in the contest (it's really not fair that a genuinely great song suffered bc the jury didn't actually get to see the whole performance).
have specific criteria the jurors have to follow, for example, considering if the artist had good stage presence (were they moving around and interacting with the stage or just stiff and awkward, did they convey the emotions needed for the song, like sounding vulnerable with a sad song, or sounding bright with a happy song), considering vocal tone, range, and complexity, considering originality and creativity (like taking note of costumes, props, and sets, and how well they suit the song and message being conveyed, and how much they stand out)
I will never forgive quality juries for placing Portugal last in the semi-final 1.
me and my mum joined the fanclub to get tickets last year, we just got the book/leaflet for it now.
and the article on the jury controversy is honestly kinda bad.
they defend juries place in the contest for a bit (block voting and gag acts, which of course dont happen with a jury...)
they go over the reasons for why juries are bad (no oversight, no conferring between jury members, only 5 member, the voting criteria, criteria to be on a jury etc.) and just vaguely disagreed with changing them except for number of jury member and where theyre from.
The proposed change?
Add a fan for each country onto the jury to make 6.
thats legit all they can think to improve the juries. o.0
all other preposed changes wouldn't work and would disrupt the good parts of the jury apparently. what would help is adding one person who knows about the contest. this would help bcuz they know about the contest???? i dont get it
