Esme had not been expecting the call. As his employee and occasional dalliance they didn’t often talk about personal things. While she knew he had a daughter she hadn’t thought of the girl more than in passing until Noah called her in a frenzy, needing someone who could look after the child in a bout of illness. She hadn’t been able to say no. The night had consisted of her trying to keep the baby from crying herself hoarse while also aiding in general caregiver tasks. By the time the door opened she was half asleep and when the weight was lifted from her arms, she took the opportunity to lay down. She barely heard his thanks, falling asleep almost immediately as his hand settled in her hair. Now though, it was the morning and while Esme remembered the night, she did not recall him moving her. Clearly he must’ve as she was no longer on the couch. With her head still buried in her arms she couldn’t help herself. “If this was my bed I certainly wouldn’t be traveling that often. Your wife is insane.”
