Essential oils are aromatic, volatile liquids that are found within many shrubs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes and seeds. Most essential oils are extracted from the plant through the process of steam distillation. . During the steam distillation process, steam passes through the plant material. The combination of heated steam and gentle pressure causes the essential oil to be released from the plant. As the vapour mixture, containing the essential oil, flows through a condenser and cools, it yields a layer of oil and a layer of water. The essential oil rises to the top and is separated from the hydrosol (floral water) and collected. . The process seems simple enough, however, each plant needs a specific temperature and duration to extract the oil. Most importantly, there needs to be a certain amount of the plant material to create enough oil. Just imagine... . It takes about 10,000 roses to fill a single 5ml bottle! It also takes about 60 roses to create a single drop of Rose Otto essential oil! . Some oils don’t need nearly as much plants to create their oils but just knowing the process to obtain the essential oils it’s no wonder why such small bottles can cost so much. . #essentialoilextraction #steamdistillation #10000roses #bestthingscomeinsmallpackages #aliyaaromas #like4like (at London, United Kingdom) https://www.instagram.com/p/BtwBroIFKj1/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=zjp304qeyonz
