HER STORY.
alexia is a banshee / harbinger of death , the lore of which is mostly centred around this , which some influences from history and irish / scottish folklore which i’m still working out . the main being that it’s not just deaths caused by supernatural that she can feel .
there wasn’t always a time where she knew what she was — there was an instance as a child where she’d be in trances, even so young as three . she saw her first dead body at the age of five , having taken off in a park from the swing set with her mother chasing after her in a frantic worry . she’d found a person who’d overdosed and collapsed . and while she didn’t understand , there was nothing quite like the frenzy she was in , a terror of tears that her mother tried her best to console by saying that the man was simply sleeping . but alexia while she accepted it , it didn’t cure the dread that lingered in the pit of her stomach . being an only child , she had a happy childhood , she was happy —- loved even , a sweet girl with a pure heart . but that all changed when she turned fourteen . she’d been over a friends house , doing homework when she had to leave , and hadn’t looked where she was going crossing the street —- being hit by a car , lead to her being a coma for weeks , on the verge of death and life . it was this that fully triggered her banshee abilities . it was while she was in a coma that her first full premonition came to her , that lead to her startling awake early hours with an almighty scream —- a scream that shook the building , smashed windows —– and quaked her to her core . because that scream sounded the thought , the premonition she didn’t want to accept , because it was the prediction of her mother’s death .
this lead to her ripping out her iv’s , and fleeing the hospital , as fast as her exhausted body could take her —- in pursuit of her mother , in hopes that she could stop what was going to happen . no matter how hard she pushed her failing body , that was still filled with sleep , she was too late . she’d gotten home to a busted door , a littered room with all their family pictures , glass everywhere and her mother’s body . she’d screamed out in agony as she cradled her , tears cascading her cheeks , voice raw from begging her to come back . after that she’d been catatonic for a while , angry at herself for failing her mother , she’d cried all her tears . she was angry at her father for working , for whatever happened to her mother , for not knowing what happened or why she was gone when she’d come back . she spent the remaining years avoiding getting close to people —- trying to save those who she could , after making a vow with herself to never fail someone again . she couldn’t take back what is passed , but it’s what pushes her to try and protect and stop the inevitable . she’s estranged from her father after years of her own limits holding her back from forgiving him and forgiving herself . there was nothing for her to say now . maybe part of her thought he blamed her , for the accident , for what lead after it . after research , she finally understood what and who she was —- what she was meant to do —- she was the wailing woman , a banshee , and it was one of the worst things that ever happened to her . it was something she didn’t want and didn’t ask for . alexia wanted only peace . and so she did her best , when screaming or being alerted to death , she tried to save as many as she could —- and she succeeded a lot , some she failed . notches under her belt of all the things she’d done wrong and never let go . it was at the age of nineteen that she’d done what she normally did , tried to save someone , only it went wrong —- she’d gone up against a supernatural being , using her powers , the strength behind her scream to obliterate them , but it failed and it cost her life . her life in the place of a teenage boys , and maybe she was accepting , maybe she was happy to go if it meant not failing another person . her coming back had been a strange feeling , it was like she could hear and feel everything again all of a sudden , that she could feel not only her own overwhelming grief she tried to suppress , but the warnings to come . in her very bones . alexia is very hesitant to get close to people , maybe believing it’s easier to be alone after losing her mother and not being able to stop it —- she doesn’t want to be weak and experience that kinda loss again , she’s subsequently protecting herself . she runs on autopilot a lot , has a very sarcastic bitchy nature , but underneath the cold exterior , she’s warm —- very kind , and just wants to be loved . even if she knows it’ll only end one way .
PREVIOUSLY.
alexia came back to life, in san francisco, and found it horrendously hard to adjust, the lack of abilities was an adjustment and yet because she was a bit more free she had the opportunity to be herself again, without the burdens. she had the original displeasure, and later pleasure of bumping into someone from her past. a reaper, called zain. now, her and zain’s history was a treacherous one, him trying to reap the souls that were due to die, her fighting and using her abilities to save them. were they ever truly made for anything OTHER than being on the opposite sides? it seemed so, after what was supposedly a dream where she got to see him as the vulnerable, a panic attack of all things stopped with her lips finding his. and suddenly even though he was the one struggling for oxygen, it was her that felt like she could finally BREATHE again. suddenly he wasn’t a pain in the ass anymore, or he was and it was something she could tolerate because the good outweighed the bad. they had a chance at normality, not having to give into their abilities. and truthfully, alexia fell for him. well and truly in love with him, getting the chance at a domesticated bliss, and he got to see past the exterior. they had been through so much together, her saving him, him having to watch her die when he reaped her previously. they had been to hell and back.
the domestic bliss turned out to be too good to be true, there is only so long that someone can suppress their abilities. the voices had always been something she had tried to tune out, and managed to but when the barrier came down, it got so overwhelming that she couldn’t deal with it. it was a particular night when she decided to leave, when she couldn’t tune it out anymore, when her throat was LITERALLY aching for her to scream. an overwhelming urge, so much that it was this heaviness that she felt in her entirety. her logic was to leave, to scream away from people in order to stop any harm she could cause to them. even if she hadn’t fought to save people for a while, she still didn’t want to commit a mass homicide because she screamed so hard that gave people aneurysms, or literally blew off their heads. she managed to get to an empty field, and unleashed all she had kept in. it was so intense that it left her exhausted for days on end, suddenly the voices felt a little bit easier to deal with. she felt lighter, but then leaving zain without saying goodbye had made her to feel HORRENDOUS. like finally things had been GOOD in her life and she had hit self destructive mood, she’d screwed up the one good thing. the one person who truly cared about her. and so days turned into six weeks of being gone. and yet she’s decided to come back to san francisco, she’s trying to tell herself it’s because she’s been drawn back here by her abilities, but she knows it’s really him that’s drawn her back. and a hope of some normalcy again. and maybe because san francisco is the only place that seems like home. but was that the truth? or did the city just draw her back with it’s magic.
