Ten years later, and I still geek the fuck out over Eternal Session, the limit break ability that Sora and Riku can use when they party up at the end of Kingdom Hearts 2. I love seeing the two portrayed as equals-- two sides of the same coin-- and seeing them wreck shit together in that limit is infinitely cool to me.
So you know I nearly bust a nut when they visually referenced Eternal Session in the Dream Drop Distance Opening, inserting one of their limit animations in its rendition of the famous Xemnas laser barrage sequence.
And the specifics of this particular part of Eternal Session is amazing when you can see it in slow-mo, since when you’re playing the game everything goes by so quickly!
I can’t believe I never realized, until I saw the CG version of this move, that they both took turns dual wielding each other’s keyblades. And it’s funny when you notice Sora ducking under Riku’s swings, while Riku avoids Sora’s sweep by shadowing behind him.
I guess it’s kinda embarrassing to say this, but seeing these two fight together gives me life. I want to personally shake the hand of the person(s) who thought of and animated this limit.
