[ID: three photos featuring a pair of hand knit slippers. They are knit with two strands of yarn, one solid black and the other variegated in several bright colours. Two pictures show the slippers worn on bare feet held at different angles, the third picture shows just the slippers draped one over the other.]
My vacation knitting for the year! I actually finished them on the drive home, save for the weaving in of ends which is something that is best not done in a moving vehicle.
They started out as socks, but I quickly realised that they’d turn out way too big for that (somehow the combination of using double stranded yarn, thicker needles and more stitches than usual somehow combined into something bigger than expected, who’d have thought? Not me, obviously.) So I very cleverly decided that they were going to be slippers instead.
Still turned out way too big for that (which was obvious after about 2/3rds of the first slipper, but I still finished the thing because apparently my self-delusion optimism knows no bounds) so they went for a refreshing splash in the frog pond.
After some gnashing of teeth and crunching of numbers the second attempt turned out pretty much perfect, and I really love wearing them around the house.
I made up the pattern on the fly and had a lot of fun with it--lots of simple but relatively short sections that allow for some zoning out but still keep it interesting with visible progress. Just an all around fun and satisfying project to do :-)
