Digitürk, Eutelsat collaborate to offer 4K demonstration channel in Turkey

Eutelsat Communications recently entered an agreement with Digitürk, Turkey’s leading pay-TV operator, to bring the 4K Ultra-HDTV demo channel into the country. The first demo transmission took place earlier this month via Eutelsat’s 7A satellite, which is also home to Digitürk's pay-TV platform. Digitürk's Product Development and Broadcasting Systems operations manager Emre Uysal noted that the company has the necessary infrastructure and service capabilities needed for 4K. Uysal said, “We have 4K capability as of now and aim to be ready for commercial broadcasts once standards of this ecosystem are finalised and consumer equipment is available in the market. This demonstration channel gives us a powerful platform to show the vivid experience afforded by Ultra HD and will enable us to build the broadcasting chain from content production to home viewing.” Speaking about the partnership, Eutelsat’s Turkey, Middle East and Africa Manager Ali Korur said: “Eutelsat is proud to be Digiturk’s chosen digital satellite partner for almost 15 years and to embark on this new venture in 4K broadcasting. Supporting the broadcast industry along its continuing path of innovation is a core part of our DNA. Eutelsat 3D satellite preparing for launch on May

The 3D satellite of Eutelsat Communication is now in its final stage for the scheduled launch aboard an ILS Proton Breeze M rocket, which will blast off at the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. Built by Thales Alenia Space using the company’s Spacebus 4000 platform, Eutelsat 3D satellite weighs 5.4 tons and is designed to operate in orbit for a span of 15 years, The satellite will be initially located at three degrees east orbital position to address high-growth video, data, telecom and broadband markets. Eutelsat’s new satellite will be able to serve customers in Europe, Central Asia, North Africa and the Middle East via the configuration of Ku and Ka transponders connected to three footprints. Meanwhile, a fourth Ku-band service area will provide for markets in sub-Saharan Africa. Once Eutelsat 3B is launched, the Eutelsat 3D satellite will change its orbital position to 7 degrees East. The upcoming Eutelsat 3B is scheduled to be launched next year to deliver spectrum growth and high levels of operational flexibility in C, Ku and Ka band.

Eurochannel taps Eutelsat 16A satellite to expand reach in sub-Saharan Africa

Eurochannel, an international TV channel dedicated to European films and series, has started its international expansion by choosing EUTELSAT 16A satellite to broadcast the company’s signal across sub-Saharan Africa. This move comes three months after Eurochannel signed a new five-year agreement for capacity and satellite TV services with Eutelsat Communications. Leveraging the power of Eutelsat’s Ku-band footprint sweeping all over Africa -- from Senegal in the West to Madagascar in the East -- Eurochannel joins a digital platform uplinked by the company which includes more than 20 TV channels. Eutelsat satellite capacity will power new satellite TV platform in Georgia

Eutelsat Communications will be providing satellite capacity in support of Global TV, a new satellite broadcasting platform offered by JSC Global Contact Consulting.

A media company based in the Eastern European country of Georgia, JSC Global has entered a multi-year agreement with Eutelsat for capacity on the Eutelsat 36B satellite. JSC Global will use 36B's widebeam footprint to deliver its new platform across the entire country, the surrounding regions, and Western Europe.

Satellite broadcasting of Global TV begins this March 2013. The initial broadcast will feature four free-to-air (FTA) channels with room for later addition of both Georgian and international channels.

JSC intends to accelerate viewers' access to its Global TV platform by installing several thousand satellite dishes across Georgia during the next couple of years. The satellite antenna will be locked on to Eutelsat 36B, which occupies the 36 degrees East orbital slot.
