"In the show, Ace faces several different trials of personal relationships, mainly with her dad and with Nancy. With her dad, Ace has found out she has a brother, and is trying to get in touch with said brother as well as to figure out the truth of her dad's past and relationship. However, any attempt she makes to breach this truth is firmly rebuffed by her dad, to the point where when she attempts to tell her mom (who doesn't know) about her brother, her dad kicks her out of the house on the spot. With Nancy, so many of their issues in the relationship stem from communication and autonomy on both sides of the couple, but in Ace's case these issues compound life events she's already struggling with, whereas with Nancy, there is a pretty strong safety net to fall back on. In one case, Ace comes to Nancy upset to have made a hard choice which caused someone else to die, and Nancy's decision in that moment is to "help" her by taking away all memories of the event. Ace is so frequently stripped of safe havens and choice that I think choosing to transition, choosing to be a girl, is one of the most powerful things she could do for herself." - Anonymous
