This had grown into a far too complicated situation, something he wasn’t sure he was comfortable with anymore. It all began with just a little bit of fooling around, and now? Now he was invested, and it was confusing him. Evan had never really felt anything that deep, and particularly not with someone who was supposed to be an enemy. Sure, they got to live whatever that was in secret, and it was great, it made him feel great, but he was starting to feel trapped. And he was starting to feel himself change, and he didn’t know what to do about it. His usual reaction was to screw things up, but he couldn’t just do that.
So he pulled Gideon to the farthest corner of the pub. It was a darker place, quiet, people rarely came that far back, he knew by experience. But this was the most appropriate place, he thought. After sitting down, Evan couldn’t even look at the other, staring at the table in front of him, silent. It was only once the silence was growing uncomfortable that he finally spoke. “I can’t keep doing this.” He said, finally looking at the other, something he regretted almost immediately. Was it too late to realize was he felt was actually love? Perhaps it was. “I just can’t, I’m sorry.” It was the truth, he was sorry. And now that he said it, all he could think about was to just escape and empty a bottle or two until he fell asleep. But he couldn’t, he couldn’t just leave like that.
