Esper & Guide AU Background Information #02 (for this AU)

Most S-Class Guides also have abilities, but they tend to go unnoticed since these abilities are considered useless in gates.

Riko Moriyama is able to get esper's hooked on his guiding, making it so that they are unable to be guided by anyone else after a point.

Jeremy Knox is able to regulate the heart beat of the one they are guiding.

Andrew Minyard is able to clear the minds of those he guides.

These abilities are considered useless in anything else but guiding. (Tetsuji was one of the only ones who looked at both Andrew and Riko and saw just how deadly they truly were.)

Kayleigh Day is not an esper or a guide, and was known for her experiments and research surrounding Esper's and Guide's.

Tetsuji Moriyama was put in charge of the Nest by his uncle, and after he showed promise he was also made the head of the Evermore Facility.

David Wymack was an independent esper that soon retired and established the Foxes.

⊹₊⟡⋆ The Researchers of the Nest ⊹₊⟡⋆

Kayleigh Day is forced to join the experiments at the Nest. Kevin is taken from het when he is born, because Tetsuji needs to get better results and he can't do it without Kayleigh. He threatens Kayleigh, telling her that Kevin will be cared for as long as Kayleigh comes to him with results. She has no choice but to listen.

Tilda Hemmick forces herself as one of the researchers in the labs.

Cass Spear already used to be one of the old researchers. She transferred to Evermore after Drake joined them. She was pretty much a low level trainer who was transferred to the Nest after Drake was (she truly believe that they are doing something good there, something revolutionary, and she does see the subjects as kids).

Drake Spear used to be one of the old members of the Evermore facility, manifesting his abilities when he is only 15. He had to retire due to an accident at one of the gates and is sent to be in charge of the experiments in the Nest. (He is responsible of the guides)

Mary Hatford needs an out by the time that Nathaniel is born, and manages to land herself a job at the Nest after solving a problem that the researchers there was having, she tells them that she would only go if she was allowed to take Nathaniel with her too.

There are other researchers there (such as Romero Malcolm) but only the five of them are allowed to work with the main subjects, the rest of the researchers work in the laboratories and have no access to the information about the subjects.

Esper & Guide AU Background Information #01 (for this AU)

Esper's are those who are born with —or those who have manifested— a special ability. The excessive use of those abilities tend to have them go berserk or lose control. The higher that their level is the more destructive they tend to be, and also more guiding they need.

Guide's are those who have the ability to calm or stabilize the Esper's. The higher their level is the more powerful they are, the faster (and smoother) the guiding process goes.

Gate's appear a couple months before the first manifestation. For the longest time it is pure destruction, the world barely holding on as monsters that no ordinary human would be able to take on by theirselves running amok. The level of the gate's depends on the level of the creatures that habitat the dungeon, along with the environment and such.

Evermore Facilities are a facility that starts training those who show abilities from the first manifestation, they are hailed as heroes by most— others consider them as 'monsters' too in a way, because too many lives are lost due to the chaos that the esper's bring themselves. Evermore facilities consists of only esper's and doesn't have any guides under its roof.

The Trojans, who are more of a stealth group, are made out of more lower level esper's along with guides who work together. They take on the monsters by causing a little destruction as possible, which makes them more adored in the public eye. James Rhemann becomes in 2001, after having been a part of the Trojans for 10 years.

The Association pretty much takes in Guide's more than Esper's. They do have Esper's but they pretty much exist to accompany other facilities during harder raid's, or to protect the Guide's during the missions that the Guide's go to.

The Nest is a secret underground facility who focuses on heightening the abilities of those who manifested abilities. For the longest time those who sign up for it are those who are there want to be there. It is only after news of babies who are born with abilities show up that they start taking in smaller kids, those who would not be able to give their consent to the test's that will be done to them (who still end up bound to the contracts that their parents sign).

The Foxes don't exist till 2000, founded by David Wymack. They are similar to the Trojans, but their Esper's are considered much more unstable, making it harder for them to get Guide's.

When an Esper goes through corruption other facilities are usually ordered to kill them—this is why if a Facility is able to offer guiding to that Esper or able to sustain that Esper, the Esper is forced to sign a contract with that Facility.

Guiding is done by skin-contact, it can be done by a guide simply holding on to an Esper's shoulders and guiding them. More skin contact also means that the guiding is more powerful.

In a world where espers and guides exist, Nathaniel —an esper who has never seen the sky— and Andrew —a guide who has forgotten what it meant to trust another— meet in evermore facilities for the first time as kids. The two boys grow closer the longer they are locked away there. They meet each night, Nathaniel sneaking through the guards thanks to his ability, and for each night they spend together Andrew shares a new memory with the younger boy, telling him of the outside world. In return, Nathaniel reminds Andrew the feeling of freedom once more, showing that some people are worth trusting in the end.
