@Walmart s #CollectorCon is back on March 16!
11th World of Squash Golf Day
The 11th Annual World of Squash Golf Day returned to the spectacular RAC Woodcote in Epsom, where it all began 11 years ago.
Once again Eventis Sports brought together golfers from all walks of squash, including players, sponsors, administrators, media and fans of the sport.
The RAC has long history of squash having hosted the British Open in the 60s and stunning clubhouse and golf facilities make it the ideal ‘home’ for the World of Squash Golf Day. A slightly later start in 2018, saw the competitors congregate for coffee, bacon rolls and putting practice soon after 11.30am.
A two-tee start saw a nice compact field and after an enjoyable 18 holes on the Old Course in slightly windy but equally sunny conditions there followed, the mandatory debrief and ‘if only’ chat on the Terrace. Everyone then retired to the Derby Room in the main club house for dinner.
After dinner the prizes were presented by young golf star Enrique Dimayuga (+2 Handicap), who had impressed on the PAR 3 Challenge, in fact he was only a couple of inches away from a hole in one at his first attempt!
Roehampton scored steadily (according to captain Paul Lindsay – himself not included) to record 91 points and reclaim a title they won in 2014. Congratulations to Paul Lindsay, Chris Goodenough, Adam Beamish & Dominic Guerrini. The wooden spoon was won by hosts Team Eventis with a paltry 79 points (32 on the front 9 being the killer!)
The 11th World of Squash Golf day was won by Tunbridge Well’s Roger Barton who picked up an impressive 42 points (which will lead to a handicap review if he is seen again!). However, there was also solid scoring from Tim Garner (39) and Robbie Temple, Chris Goodenough and last year’s champ Alex Gough (all 38).
Nearest the Pin was won by Roehampton’s Chris Goodenough and Europa Tour player Dan Garner of Dynamic7 picked up the nearest the pin in two on the tough 2nd hole. Andy Malley of Team PSA was straightest off the tee while, Robbie Temple picked up back to back longest drive titles and his third in all.
Seventeen year-old Sports Aid funded golfer Enrique Dimayuga (Handicap +2) entertained everyone with his ball striking and accuracy. Only 6 of 32 players got inside his shots. Enrique stayed on for the dinner and to present the prizes.
The post dinner auction raised over £1,200, which will be ring-fenced by Sports Aid for young squash players in need of funding. Thanks to our hole sponsors The Cook Partnership, Meansnacks, Melior Squash and Select Gaming for their support.
