the black phone movie is wrong. robin arellano can't die in 1978. he needs to be alive when the first alien movie comes out in 1979 so that he and finn can bond over it as a combination of their interests in space and horror movies respectively

today i am thinking about how robin arellano attempts to justify the horrific tragedy of his own murder by reasoning that it was for some kind of greater good i.e. ensuring finney's survival

like while it's technically true it's just soooo freakin painful to think about how this 13 year old was so quick to hold onto the idea that his death served a greater purpose and that he was "dying for a friend" when even he himself had to know deep down that he had zero choice in the matter

the way he compares his own death to his dad dying honorably in war because he had chose not to leave his friends behind. meanwhile robin had just been caught in the wrong place at the wrong time and murdered brutally without having an ounce of agency in that situation. and yet he still tries to find some reasoning in hopes of reclaiming some shred of agency because it's just so hard for him to accept that his life was ripped away from him and that outcome would never have changed no matter what he did

the robin phone call scene is so impactful to me not just because of the "let's work together to kill a man" bffs realness but also because of how much robin plays up the idea that He Died so Finney Could Live. the way that robin intentionally doesn't show even so much as a smidge of vulnerability, because he just can't afford to. partially because he knows finney needs the motivation, but also partially because admitting even to himself that his life was unfairly taken from him means acknowledging that he was helpless to change his fate in any way

it means he was never any kind of hero, he never gave his life honorably to save anyone, he's just a victim of a horrible crime. just a scared kid putting on an act so he doesn't have to admit to himself how powerless he was despite how hard he tried

one of my biggest gripes with the UwUfication of finney blake is the way that people treat him like he's in any way weak, fragile or "soft" as if those same people would last even an hour in his shoes

like bestie you are talking about the boy who used his resourcefulness, intelligence & competence to go from being trapped in a serial killer's basement to setting a trap for and then MURDERING said serial killer, avenging the ghosts of his victims in the process, all while being LITERALLY THIRTEEN YEARS OLD, and people are writing him as if he would be easily taken down by a strong breeze. DOES ANYONE SEE THE PROBLEM WITH THIS I AM LOSING MY MARBLES TRYING TO COMPREHEND HOW PEOPLE COULD MISINTERPRET A CHARACTER SO ABYSMALLY

did you guys have airpods in during robin's phone call. did "you've always been a fighter, finn. that's what we have in common, why we're friends. you were always afraid to throw a punch, but you always knew how to take one. and you always got back up, every time." mean nothing to you people

OH AND SPEAKING OF ROBIN DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON HOW HE GETS CAUGHT IN THE COLLATERAL DAMAGE OF THIS GRAND DISPLAY OF BULLSHITTERY because i swear to god if i see ONE MORE PERSON act like robin x finn is a "strong tough boy x soft uwu boy" couple i will break out the fucking lawnmower. they're so interesting as actual characters with actual personalities stop treating them like they're the guys from the fucking boyfriends webtoon or i will go actually insane

BQCK ON THE MAIN TOPIC, yes, finney breaks down at one point. yes he cries but that is because he is a child trapped in a horrific nightmare scenario that no one should ever have to be in. but even after all that, with just a little help (which there is zero shame in because he is, once again, a child) finn gets back up. in the face of terrifying impossible odds and undeniably brutal consequences ahead of him should he choose to fight, he decides to stand his ground and fight anyway because he is finney blake, and finney blake is one of the baddest bitches in denver

and this has Always Been The Case- getting kidnapped didn't turn him badass, it was just the wake up call that lead him to finally recognize his potential and embrace it. robin literally said himself that finney had always been strong as hell and that's why they were friends. again, they're both fighters

just give my guy finn some credit already. he did not go through hell on earth just to get the soft boy treatment. alright? god damn

i like to think that after everything finn puts a lot of effort into sticking up for and befriending the bullied loner kids at school

idk i just feel like that phone call with griffin was kind of a wake up call for him because, well, finn felt alone too. robin and gwen really seem to have been his only friends and the only other attention he generally got from his peers was, well, y'know. The ruthless bullying

and i think he'd realize that griffin didn't have anyone like robin or gwen while he was alive. and i can see finn taking it upon himself to Be that kind of presence in the lives of kids whose shoes he used to be in. whose shoes griffin used to be in

bc griffin deserved to have that. but he didn't. so finn's gonna make sure no other kid like him ever has to feel invisible again

it's poetic really because i see this being a sort of continuation of a cycle that started with robin, someone finn always really looked up to

i see robin as someone who would always stand up for kids that didn't have the confidence to stand up for themselves, and even if i don't really think that's how he and finn Became Friends, i do think it lead to robin having quite a few other loner kid buddies Like finn who probably also became targets for bullying once again after robin's disappearance.

i think he's always wanted to be the kind of person to stand up and fight for others and it gave him this kind of reputation of "yeah robin's scary if you're on his bad side but if you aren't a dick he's probably like the most reliable dude you could talk to if you have a problem with bullies or whatever" y'know

of course i still think his dynamic with finn is definitely very special in comparison to other kids robin's stood up for. Mostly bc of how the narrative frames their bond as Being something special especially during the final call

but my point is just that i don't think finn is the Only Other Kid who robin ever made a point in routinely standing up for and i like to think he's relatively popular among pretty much all of the kids who. Aren't the ones that he gets into fights with lol

he's not just a protector but also a ride or die friend who doesn't judge strength based on pure physical brawn alone, recognizing resilience and bravery as just as important and even more respectable! he's a lot more compassionate and emotionally intelligent than people tend to give him credit for and it's one reason why he's my fave

and i think that this reputation of his means that his disappearance left an undeniable void and a lack of support for anyone he used to stand up for. as i said earlier, i don't think finn was the only kid who was "under robin's protection" so to speak and a lot of other kids probably also had to deal with suddenly becoming targets for bullying again once robin was no longer around

so i just think it's a really sweet way to conclude that arc if, post basement, finn steps into a that similar kind of role for robin. once the protected, now the protector, lending a hand to kids with similar struggles just like a close friend once did for him

i think there are a lot of little ways he tries to let the ghost boys' legacies continue through himself and this is just one special little headcanon for that which i find very sweet and nice :)

robin arellano is, to me, one of those characters who could be any flavor of transgender and it would make sense. ftm? totally. mtf? absolutely! non-binary? so true. genderfluid? 100%! agender? hell yeah why not!!

ever since the genloss finale came out i feel like i've ascended. it's SUCH An impressive creative feat and it's so full of intricate detail and it's so well thought out and aahfhghgh. I WANNA DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT!!!

like idk as an artist it's just sooo fucking cool how genloss is just a thing that Exists i'm so endlessly fascinated by it and it's one of the most inspiring things i've seen. And the fact that social experiments is only the beginning??? And it's not even the creator's main/favorite story for genloss??? this ACTUAL MASTERPIECE is just the goddamn beginning and that floors me

ranboo is clearly so endlessly dedicated to this project and you can just tell they're pouring their entire damn heart into it. their creative vision is something special, and i just can't help but respect the everliving hell out of all the work they're putting into it. props to them for creating something THIS spectacular right out of the gate, i cannot wait to see what they'll do next!!!

i've got my eye on anyone who calls robin arellano dumb actually because literally what in the movie ever implied that........ what gave you that idea. where did it even come from.

either we saw two different movies entirely or there is something seriously wrong with how you view this character. just saying
