Oy. frickin ask limit
To cut my story short (it wouldn't all fit in one question) I was told by the therapist over a year ago I had major depression. This January I went to a mental hospital. I was put on depicote to stabilize my mood, Zoloft for the depressive moods because they were the problem. A week later I was sent back into the mental hospital after being released; was told that I have clinical depression. No depicote anymore. I guess my question is, is "major depression" a real thing? Whats clinical then?
Major depressive disorder or major depression is basically the term used used in the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) and is the term used by most psychologist or psychiatrists. The terms major depression and clinical depression are interchangeable. There really is no difference between major depression and clinical depression. This type of depression can also be called unipolar depression.
I can understand why they took you off depicote as it is mainly used as a mood stabiliser and is more suited for the treatment of bipolar disorder rather than depression. Zoloft is an SSRI and affects chemicals in the brain that may become unbalanced and cause depression. Hopefully it will help you manage your depression.
I hope that answers your question.Â
