Please don't advise people to lie about having food allergies! People who actually have serious food allergies get taken less seriously by waitstaff when other people lie about being allergic to foods that they can actually eat. Food allergies are life-threatening and need to be taken seriously. Lying about food allergies could literally kill someone who actually has them!
but how would they know you were lying? they’re not gonna ask to call your doctor to confirm your allergies? food allergies absolutely need to be taken seriously but saying you’re allergic to animal products so some ass doesn’t hear the word vegan and fucks with your food to be funny isn’t a big deal. Respectable places can’t take food allergies lightly even if they can somehow suspect you’re lying, unless they want to be fired or sued. I was given dairy milk in a hot chocolate once when I asked for soy twice and it made me have horrendous stomach cramps for hours, I was miserable. Once you go without animal products in some people it will cause a lot of discomfort to have them so I don’t really think it’s a bad idea.
