"Luna! Get down from there!" Jaime scolded (though as fondly as ever), momentarily diverting her attention from the stove to gently reprimand the small black cat, who now lay sprawled on the kitchen table, tail swishing lazily and threatening to knock over the various candles and dried flowers that were haphazardly scattered across the table-top. With a soft huff, she turned back to the coffee that she was stirring -- before quickly shooting an apologetic glance at Evie. “Sorry about her,” she laughed softly, running her fingers through long brown locks. “She kind of does whatever she wants, I hope it’s not bothering you? I can shoo her out, if you’d prefer,” she offered, unsure of proper etiquette and aware that not everyone took as kindly to having a cat running riot around the room.
Although a little embarrassed to admit to such a thing, Jaime was happy that she’d invited the other woman to her apartment, and even happier that her invitation had been accepted. Perhaps it was bizarre, but Jaime loved barista-ing, and her passion for coffee stretched far beyond her shifts at Deja. This particular brew was a family favourite; an old Greek recipe passed down through generations and generations, and she was glad to be able to share it with someone else, only hoping that they’d enjoy it too. “I hope it’s not too bitter,” she spoke, passing a small espresso cup along to Evie and warming her hands around her own, taking a seat opposite her. “I have tea on standby so, you know, if you hate it don’t force yourself to drink it. I won’t be offended, it’s not for everyone,” she reassured honestly. Greek coffee had a distinctive taste, and she could remember her own disgusted expression when she first had a taste as an eight year old, clamouring to drink with the grown-ups.
The coffee was good -- in her eyes, at least -- and the company even better. A smile flickered at pink lips. “I used to drink this every day back in Greece, It always amazed me how long my grandparents could make this tiny cup last. I was always told off for gulping it down too quickly.” She laughed. “Where did you grow up?”
