Wonderful experience. Lost my second battle to @deejayskyscraper. But I had fun, went out swingin as best I could with what I've got right now. Double congratulations to Skyscraper for taking home the victory for the whole tournament. Mans came to get down, and was taking no prisoners! Shout out to @benga.media for the photos! Shout out to @cm_omaha for having @marceyyates and myself as DJ's, representing @culxrhouseomaha. Additional shout outs to the fellas @enjoybxth (@sckyrei & @infntlp), @ohdafro, and @Dillakids (@marceyyates & @donaldprofound) making cameos during my portion of the set. There's an abundance of talent in and from this city. I'll always do my best to represent and support with whatever avenues, opportunities, and resources that I have available to me. On that note, I'm issuing an open challenge to all local DJ's, storefront owners, media stations, podcasters, etc. If you're not playing music from your own backyard, then what the fuck is your problem? It's not even difficult to find niggas. If you follow me, then you've already got access to at least 100 niggas who make music in this city. Now check this out, if you dig through their followers/follows, you'll find even more. From there, all you have to do is utilize this magical technique called "asking for the link" if one isn't already in their bio. A lot of stores and venues are already playing Spotify playlists for their house music.... It's not that hard to make your own custom playlists with local artists sprinkled in. DJ's, a massive part of our job is finding new music, if you're not incorporating people from your own city into that search, you're willfully just being a dickhead. I'm not even saying play the music for the sake of it. Find what you GENUINELY like, and just mix it in with the rest of the shit that you're already about to play anyway. If other people are fuckin with it and don't know what it is, more often than not, those people will work that same magic trick and "ask for the link." I've written out lists.... LISTS of names and songs for people at events before just off the strength of a couple dope local tracks I've played. Which in turn has gotten me more attention and networking opportunities. The rising tide raises all ships, dick-lick. I'm not even saying make your whole set local acts. Just a few, like 2-6 per gig at minimum. If you already do, then cool, keep it up.
