Apropo of conversations I've had with Ex Libirs.
Second batch refraction
Concentration 2.03% Extraction: 17.39%
Pretty unhappy with that. Tastes better though. Could be any number of reasons.
Filtering Second Batch
I was late getting home to filter the coffee, thus it brewed for about 24 extra minutes, compared to last time. I'm worried this will have a subtle effect on the outcome. Like many things regarding cold brew, I'll have to wait and see.
Filtering itself seemed easier this time, whether because I've done it before and now have a practiced hand, or because the 100 gram material reduction allowed for better control, I'm not sure.
The cold brew is continuing to filter through the paper filter as I type, I'll update this post or reblog it if I have any further developments. But barring that I hope to take this second batch to get refracted later this evening. Hopefully this batch might even taste good (hopefully, but I'm not holding my breath).
Second Batch, April 15
Popped in the second batch using what I learned at Ex Libris. We'll see how it comes out.
Recipe 600 G of Months old Kiagombe 5 L of RO Water
Ground at “4.5”
Agitated at first by sloshing it around in the bucket.
Put into the fridge at 1400.
Stopped by Ex Libris
The Brains at Ex Libris refracted my first batch and things were not as discouraging as they seemed.
First batch Refraction Results: Concentration: 2.4 Extraction: 18.29
I've got a direction to head with my next batch.
While we pondered what to do, they pulled me some of their Lungo shots they've been working on. They've nearly eliminated the sour aspects I was having trouble with earlier in the week. Truly, this is a whole new world.
