Now that we have a few B-sides from Skycolorgirl, I wanted to ask how related the lyrics of the songs are to, for lack of a better term, the "Lore" of 3D Mainichi Modern. Like, are these things Thompson is thinking about/feeling in the concept of the show? I mainly started wondering after listening to the newest credits theme so much. (Great job on that, BTW. I've been listening to it nonstop)
A few songs were written specifically for the show (alphabet, ambulocetus) but most weren’t. That’s not to say the music is made in a vacuum, I like cartoon bands and want the music to fit aesthetically with 3dmm. It’s also freeing cuz Thompson is literally nine, so- I don’t need perfect takes, I can use tacky midi, and I can record a guitar solo that’s intentionally funny (you’ll know it when you hear it).
But writing lyrics is the hardest part for me, and I don’t wanna make it any harder by limiting it to Thompson’s POV. Some songs are def about childhood, while others are more adult in tone because I'M an adult, and I'm sorta writing what I know. Still, I realize that at the end of the day, a cartoon 9yo is singing all this, so I tend to avoid songs about like. Huffing paint or going to hostess clubs or what have you.
Really, the main driving force behind any song is what rhymes good. And what gumi v3 can actually pronounce.
