You keep using that word... (Exotic and it’s various forms)
Why do people act like exoticism is a bad thing? Why do people act like finding something or someone exotic is bad?
“Exotic” basically means “foreign in an exciting and/or attractive way”.
What the hell is wrong with that?
There’s nothing wrong with finding something or someone that/who is foreign to you exciting or attractive. That’s not fetishizing or dehumanizing or whatever else you all act like it is. Finding people exciting and/or attractive is not the same thing as treating them like an object.
Many people are naturally curious about and fascinated by the unfamiliar and as a result we have people who pursue knowledge for knowledge’s sake, people who don’t knee-jerk react to others with unreasonable fear and suspicion, people who try to understand others, et cetera.
Absolutely everyone and everything is exotic to somebody and there is nothing wrong with that.
Seriously, if you have a problem with people finding anyone/thing exotic then I hope it’s only due to a misunderstanding caused by you never bothering to learn what the word actually means and not because you’re a racist, a xenophobe, a segregationist, and/or something else awful like that. :/

Also, don’t bother trying to blame "exotifying/exoticizing” for people being jerks.
That’s like trying to blame sexual attraction for creeps who sexually harass others or like trying to blame compassion for people who treat others with supercilious pity.
Some people are odious, thus have odious behavior.
Lay the blame where it is due.
