i think a big aspect of why suzaki stuck around with amagai as long as he did was because of this life debt he's sort of inherited from his father.
because in the movie they mention that suzaki's family fell from grace and they took him in very graciously and hired suzaki's father as their driver as a way to keep them afloat which i'm assuming happened when suzaki and amagai were pretty young, since amagai mentions having had suzaki under his thumb for a while.
that is probably a lot for a kid to take in for one considering the fact that the way this was worded was amagai's family basically saved suzaki's from poverty.
alongside that, i assume this happened young enough wherein suzaki would already feel a sense of "oh, i have to pay this guy back," since amagai had offered to protect suzaki from bullies as well as becoming one of his first friends. also when you're young everything is life or death so i wouldn't be surprised if suzaki initially made this promise the way any young kid does before it got wayyy exacerbated through this debt he feels he has to pay amagai back for (keeping his family from ruin)
also suzaki's own father mentions that he transferred suzaki to senomon when amagai did to keep him company, so i'm assuming even his father sees their friendship as some sort of bargaining chip to keep amagai happy as well as somehow repay the family for the life debt that they owe them
what i'm saying basically is i think it was a mix of blind loyalty and the pressure to pay off amagai's family and their salvation of suzaki's family that kept him glued to amagai's side, though suzaki might not be too aware of the second thing because it's overshadowed by this childhood memory he's fixated on
taking "haunted by your past" a little bit too literally
There were still a hundred excellent reasons why Doumeki was crazy. For some reason, Watanuki was just having trouble remembering what any of them were.
Watanuki is a bit distracted (chp. 3)

This is not the scene where supernatural forces coerce them into having sex. This is the argument they had afterwards.
Me, two weeks ago: I kind of want to write a multi chapter fic about Nightingale and Mellenby and how toxic and dysfunctional I think they would have been, but what I truly crave in fandom are conversations and discussions and I'm not going to get that from this fic, so lets not waste my time
Me, a week ago: maybe I could... just a little... as a treat to myself
Me, also a week ago: this is going surprisingly well, but maybe I should make the Casterbrook years their own self contained thing, that way it’s less of a commitment and I can decide later if I want to continue
Me, now: why did I make this about the war and how come Nightingale’s siblings are in this about as much as Mellenby

Hey your tags on the jingyi bullhorn art sent me, I'm obsessed with this take, please write the cousin's POV fic I beg of you
I am the actual worst at finishing fic! And not very good at writing it to begin with, tbh. I do think the General Lan POV on Lan Wangji is a goldmine of comedy potential because he seems to have spent his youth being extremely obnoxious in the pursuit of perfect lanness- there are I presume multiple reasons Xichen is desperate for him to make friends with new people who haven’t had the chance to get to know him yet - and then he pivots so hard. I’m not even talking about pledging his eternal devotion to a necromancer, defying the elders, and nearly getting beaten to death before kneeling in a cave for three years, Lan Wangji is open to creative interpretation of religious precepts now? Lan Wangji is out there publicly advocating for radical reformation of the way we as a culture approach discipline and child-rearing? Lan Wangji? that same little fucker who once tattled on us for playing an illicit game of hopscotch? That guy?
Hi, I'm really torn about whether to fill in the EC form. I have social anxiety disorder/generalised anxiety disorder for which I am receiving NHS treatment. I find it really hard to socialise/talk to people. My grades have not been affected that much. GCSEs are 8A* 2As and for AS 90+ UMS for all units. I don't know whether Cam see mental illness as a valid EC and am scared they will discriminate against my application cos they may think a mentally ill person can't cope with the Cam workload.
Mental illness is 100% a valid EC, and is one of the most common ECs that people use the form for. Definitely fill in the EC form, it’s important that Cam is aware of everything that could affect your application in any form - I don’t actually know the extent to which this is true, but it’s possible that should your interview not go as well as planned, Cam will take into account that it could be because of your anxiety. So yeah, it’s best to make sure all your bases are covered!
