What about traumatic ones that you say have "ruined" you?

Oh that’s more of a joke than anything else. There are movies that change you, Martyrs immediately comes to mind, but I think that change is for the better. It’s not dissimilar to extreme sports or extreme haunts or anything like that, except I don't have to risk my body, only my sanity.

Jon Schnitzer has been getting called upon by radio as a haunt expert a bunch lately. So far these have all been general haunt pieces, but KPCC has done a focused interview with him though specifically about HAUNTERS The Movie! Jon talks about the variety of haunts he is covering in the film, but most importantly, the reasons why he is doing the film: That these haunters are true artists, not just quirky folks participating in Americana.

Jon Schnitzer, director of HAUNTERS The Movie, was interviewed by KPBS San Diego for a piece on extreme haunts. Listen and read more over at the KPBS site.

"It’s not haunted houses any more, they are horror experiences. This is interactive, visceral theater," Schnitzer said. "I’ve talked with people who go to McKamey Manor and some are thrill seekers, some of them have office jobs, some of them are ex-military, they have been to Afghanistan and nothing, not even a rollercoaster can get their adrenaline going. But McKamey Manor does. And for that they love Russ because he was able to make them scared, make them scream, make them feel fear, give them that rush of adrenaline of being alive. … These extreme haunts, they kind of blur the line between entertainment and survival. It’s a 'can I survive this, what am I made of?'"
