Ever since I was dragged out to my new house and have gotten a dog who often has to go out in the dark for potty, I've had so many moments like this. Makes my stomach drop every time. Could just be a deer, could be a coyote. Could even be some person on so many drugs that their eyes super-dilated super wide to where you actually can make out the little bit of reflective eye stuff we humans have, I don't know, I don't ask my neighbors about their substance usage habits cuz it ain't my biz!
