Eye Take
“You can’t be serious Mr. Blackstone.” Lucien was not in the habit of assisting old men, but desperate times called for desperate measures, and besides that his current client had a wife and child to be worried about.
“Doctor. I am a doctor Mr. Blake. Surely you have some respect for proper decorum?” Lucien slid the paper closer to him. “These are my fees for this sort of thing. Either you pay or you may leave. That is all.”
Lucien watched the man’s eyes widen, then narrow again with despair. Humans were always so emotional about these things, so it was no wonder to Lucien that this man had lost his position and his business.
“Please, I need to find my wife and daughter.” He pleaded. Lucien chuckled. “What’s so funny Dr. Blackstone?”
“If that were true I would have my money right now.” Lucien tapped his fingers on the desk. “I have other appointments. Perhaps you could hurry your decision along?”
“Oh so you want to play hard ball do you? Well, Jonas Blake has played with the best of them and no monster is going to get the better of me.” He stood, slamming his hands on the table and looming over Lucien. Lucien did his very best impression of a surprised human, widening his eyes and opening his mouth slightly. “I demand you find my wife and daughter this instant!”
“Of course. My assistant will show you how to transfer the appropriate amount of money to the right account. I’m afraid we’ve had bad luck taking cheques. Nasty business when we have to go and collect so we find it better to do everything upfront.” Lucien pushed his chair back and stood. He took Jonas by the arm and ushered him out of the office. “Pleasure doing business with you. Abby, please help Mr. Blake transfer his money to the correct place in the correct amount. If he gives you any trouble please inform me.”
