For Just a Moment, Dancing in the Moonlight
Single Effect: Anti-Evade [40%] & Attack Up [5%]
MLB Effect: Anti-Evade [45%] & Attack Up [10%]
Anti-Evade is a Granted Effect that causes the unit to ignore enemy Evades. Evade is an effect that will let a unit dodge attacks. Anti-Evade stacks multiplicatively.
Attack Up increases the equipped character’s base stats, meaning that its effected is calculated before buffs/debuffs are considered. The effect caps at 100%.
TLDR: “For Just a Moment, Dancing in the Moonlight” isn’t useful in PVE situations where Evade can be more easily dealt with through Status Ailments or active Anti-Evades, but it could have a niche use in solo Ranked Mirrors for players who are unlucky enough to not have better Negate Evade passive memoria options. If you use Charge Gorilla Cheese strategies in Ranked (or any tactic where an enemy evading is going to be a problem), then “For Just a Moment, Dancing in the Moonlight” might actually have use for you. Just make sure that you can still deal enough damage with it equipped!
Review: “For Just a Moment, Dancing in the Moonlight” offers such a pitiful amount of Attack Up that we will, for the most part, ignore it and go right to the real discussion of the review: Anti-Evade. And unfortunately, “For Just a Moment, Dancing in the Moonlight” offers the least amount of passive Anti-Evade for memoria in the game:
(Limited 4*) “The Usual Special Seat” Anti-Evade [100%] & Blast Damage Up [40%]
(4*) “Back to Back” Anti-Evade [100%] & Burn on Attack [35% / 2 turns]
(Limited 4*) “Born Amidst Light” Anti-Evade [85%] & Attack Up [20%]
(Limited 4*) “The Ace Is a Southpaw” Anti-Evade [85%] & Critical Hit [20%]
(Limited 4*) “My Beloved Partners in Crime” Anti-Evade [60%] & Damage Up [10%]
(Limited 4*) “Revelation from My Precious Other World” Anti-Evade [60%] & Attack Up [10%]
(Limited 3*) “Sisters Being Themselves” Anti-Evade [50%] & Anti-Counter [50%]
(3*) “For Just a Moment, Dancing in the Moonlight” Anti-Evade [45%] & Attack Up [10%]
However, one thing to note is that “For Just a Moment, Dancing in the Moonlight” is going to be the easiest passive Anti-Evade memoria to acquire in the game. Of this list, only two are Unlimited: the newly added “For Just a Moment, Dancing in the Moonlight” and “Back to Back.” Everything else is a Limited memoria, with two being Event Rewards (and unlikely to return) and one being part of the Madogatari crossover and unobtainable. Of what’s left, two are part of an Anniversary gacha, and the last one is just “Sisters Being Themselves.”
NA Refugees will probably have “My Beloved Partners in Crime” at least. It offers a pitiful 60% Anti-Evade with an even more pitiful 10% Damage Up, but that’s still better than what “For Just a Moment, Dancing in the Moonlight” offers (and at least, as a four-star, it has better stats).
But before we go too deep into comparisons, let’s talk about Anti-Evade real quickly-- specifically, equipping passive Anti-Evade. In most scenarios, Evade for PVE won’t be too much of an issue for you. Not only is it uncommon to encounter, but Evade can be taken care of in multiple ways. You can inflict a Status Ailment on the target to prevent the enemy from evading, or you can use a Magia/Doppel, or you can even spice up your gameplay with Chase or Counter. You can even stick with Anti-Evade but use active memoria instead of passive ones, and there are several actives to choose from. Some unlimited options include:
(4*) “Fulfilling the Sworn Promise” Anti-Evade [100%] & Critical Hit [35%] (Self / 3 Turns)
(3*) “The Future Goes Up in Flames” Anti-Evade [100%] & Critical Hit [15%] (Self / 3 Turns)
(3*) “A Fine Day to Cool Down” Anti-Evade [100%] (Self / 3 Turns)
So passive Anti-Evade shouldn’t be too much an issue for PVE.
But then we get to Mirrors-- specifically Ranked Mirrors. This is where negating Evades becomes more complicated and potentially much more threatening, depending on what strategies you plan on using and what characters you field. Players who are using Magia strategies won’t need to worry as much here, but players who are relying on Charge Cheese tactics can encounter serious issues if an opponent Evades on them. By Charge Cheese, I’m referring to this Ranked Charge Guide I co-wrote with @cactus-bun-- what’s important to note in this guide is that you need to win on turn one. This means that missing an attack can be catastrophically game-ending.
What makes Anti-Evade more important in Ranked now than before is the new Mirrors Ranking reward memoria “A Fake Smile Reflected in the Mirror” which gives a 25% passive Evade chance.
Before the introduction of this memoria, passive Evade memoria were all three-star or two-star memoria. In order to grab Evade, you’d have to sacrifice using a better passive memoria, meaning there was a tradeoff-- that, and these passives topped out at 20% for Evade chance. Evade doesn’t stack, so passive Evade on opponents will still be quite low even when equipped. Additionally, because the passive Evade memoria were a lower rarity, one could tell if an opponent had them equipped or not based on their Team Power. Of course, some magical girls have passive Evade baked into their Spirit Enhancement, but one can easily look up ahead of time who these characters are to avoid them if necessary.
But, with the introduction of “A Fake Smile Reflected in the Mirror,” even characters who one could safely assume wouldn’t Evade (such as Little Kyubey) can now become a problem. And unlike in PVE situations, you may not be able to deploy a Status Ailment on turn one or activate Anti-Evade. Some characters will have a Spirit Enhancement active that let’s them try to inflict ailments, but so far no Charge Gorilla has one that gives her an active Anti-Evade outright.
Now, some characters have passive Anti-Evade baked into their Spirit Enhancement. For Charge gorillas this includes:
Tanabata Yachiyo (35% Anti-Evade)
Akira Shinobu (35% Anti-Evade)
Ayame Mikuri (35% Anti-Evade)
Miyuri Yukari (35% Anti-Evade)
Akira Shinobu (35% Anti-Evade)
Sakuya Suzuka (40% Anti-Evade)
However, this doesn’t apply to all Charge gorillas. The ones that don’t have any passive Anti-Evade include:
35% Anti-Evade is better than none. But it’s still not high enough to be really reassuring. So, if you want to keep using Charge gorilla tactics for Ranked, we come back to the idea of passive Anti-Evade memoria.
Two memoria that offer full 100% Anti-Evade are “The Usual Special Seat,” part of Little Kyubey’s gacha, and “Back to Back” which is an unlimited memoria. Of course, they only provide 100% protection if you have them Max Awakened. If you don’t, they offer 85% and 80% respectively.
Anti-Evade will stack and does so multiplicatively. If you’re as bad as math at me and don’t understand how multiplicative stacking works, please check out this post where a friend helped me understand the concept better. The relevant formula for figuring out how to combine two percentages is:
So even as a single copy, and even if your character doesn’t have Anti-Evade as part of their Spirit Enhancement, “The Usual Special Seat” and “Back to Back” should be about enough to avoid most losses. The bigger problem with using these two memoria will be making sure you deal enough damage with one of them equipped because neither have a second effect that will be useful offensively for a solo Charge user.
However, what if you don’t have either of them?
Most NA Refugees will have “My Beloved Partners in Crime” which has a 60% Anti-Evade chance. On a character with passive Anti-Evade as part of their Spirit Enhancement, they will have in total a 74% chance of negating the effect. It’s close enough to the 80%-85% offered by single copies of “The Usual Special Seat” and “Back to Back” and while it’s not great, it’s still somewhat reliable.
But what if the character you’re using doesn’t have a passive Anti-Evade Spirit Enhancement node? Well, that’s where we finally come back to the actual target memoria of this review.
“For Just a Moment, Dancing in the Moonlight” has the lowest Anti-Evade chance for a passive memoria in the game, but when combined with “My Beloved Partners in Crime,” it gives a 78% chance of Anti-Evade. And if you’re a player who is unlucky, new, or you didn’t complete the event to grab “My Beloved Partners in Crime,” at the very least you’ll have some form of Anti-Evade, no matter how low and terrible.
A character with a passive Spirit Enhancement Anti-Evade node equipped with “For Just a Moment, Dancing in the Moonlight” will have a 64% chance of negating Evade as well.
Lastly, you might not be unlucky. You might actually have “My Beloved Partners in Crime” or a maxed out copy of “Back to Back.” However, if you’re a player who uses more than one Charge gorilla in your Ranked team, then you’ll probably need one more Anti-Evade passive memoria. And again, that’s where “For Just a Moment, Dancing in the Moonlight” can potentially be useful.
Of course, equipping “For Just a Moment, Dancing in the Moonlight” means you lose out on damage potential. Not only does it have a small 10% Attack Up offering, but it’s a three-star memoria with typical three-star memoria stats; meaning you’re losing out on extra ATK.
So if this is a route you decide to go on, make sure you practice in Mirrors first. Vampire Kanagi has a 50% Evade chance for the first 5 turns in Mirrors and solo Vampire Kanagis should be (easy?) to find. She’s an extreme example, but you can test out how comfortable you are with Evade percentages and knowing what kind of damage you’ll need to win. In fact, go test your setup out on other solo units too, like Little Kyubey. After all, it’s important to make sure you can win your battles and not just avoid Evade.
I’ll wrap up this very long-winded review by saying this: if you are a player who cares about Ranked, and you use a very specific solo strategy that is impacted by an enemy potentially evading, and if you don’t have very good Anti-Evade passive memoria (or any Anti-Evade passive memoria at all), you will want to keep “For Just a Moment, Dancing in the Moonlight.” Hopefully at some point it will become Enhancement Fodder for you as your collection of memoria grows larger.
If you do plan on using “For Just a Moment, Dancing in the Moonlight,” Max Awakening it for better effects and better ATK stats should be a priority, and you can use Three-Star Over Limiters on it.
