keith’s been given strict and agonising orders to keep to the med-bay, for whatever new reason the garrison nurses want to come up with. his wounds are scarring over and his bruises are going an off-shade of yellow, but half the base seem to think the paladins are on their DEATH-BEDS after they plummeted out of the atmosphere weeks back. if he hears one more ‘ get well soon ‘ over the radio they’ve tried to brighten his stay with, he’s putting himself back into a coma.
at least there’s the company, the paladins keeping in each others orbit so their hospital prison sentence doesn’t feel as long as it really is. days feel shorter when they migrate together from room to room, like knocking on each others doors to come out and play. it’s...nice. not as demanding as their usual sort of get-togethers. even if hunk still has a blackened eye, and pidge hobbles when she runs. keith’s got a crook in his left side from shoulder to hip, but he’d go out of his mind being put back to bed for it.
he comes to lance’s room first today. but he’s not alone.
❛ hey, lance. ❜ there’s a squeak from between his shoes, the space mice tumbling in in front of him, and bumbling over to the other paladin. one of them rolls, hugging on to a multi-sided dice that clacks along the floor panels, landing on an odd number. the little guy is left dazed, but cheerful. keith comes in after them, nudging the dice with the corner of his foot when he steps, sending the mouse squealing along the ground like it’s spinning on a funfair ride. there’s a book tucked under his arm, and keith looks the slightest bit mischievous about the whole thing. it’s a better look than the bitter scowl he’s had lately, envying the garrison troops from his window-ledge. he hasn’t managed to slide his way out of the med-bay undetected just yet. being a VOLTRON PALADIN doesn’t even work as a rank to hold over them, when their only reply is about the near-death experience they all had not too long ago. the cabin-fever has to go somewhere. ❛ you holding up? ❜
