Hannibal turns to survey Mason, making sure he doesn’t cut too deeply or too much off; why waste? “Two more strips,” he orders calmly, as if he’s asking Mason to chop pancetta. “I’ll ask if I need more.” 

He throws the meat into the mix, along with a dash of salt, soy, coriander and chili. The soup is going to have one hell of a kick to it. Hannibal stirs, but his eyes stay on Mason. “Are you hungry now?” he asks. “Why don’t you start on your upper lip?”

"Uh-huh," he hands over the two pieces and licks his upper lip, careful to pull his tongue behind his teeth before the knife slides through the plump flesh. His lip is soft and chewy, he presses his fingers against the hard enamel of his teeth -- bare now, a permanent grin -- feels the slick smooth texture.

"What are you making?" he says, then looks down, there's blood dripping onto the floor under him, and even as he watches a thick string of spittle spills from between his teeth -- he can't stop it without any lips, tries to catch the mess with his hands and drops the knife. He watches it spin away across the floor and makes a whining, distressed sound.

"S-sure thing, here's the ... salt--" Mason's fingertips leave bloody smears on the salt container as he passes it, he's beginning to have trouble pronouncing fricatives; his lower lip had been the first to go, "how much of the ... this?" he slices surprisingly neatly, lifting flesh from bone in fine strips.
