No but seriously if you want to work with the Fair Folk please also look at local legends, myths and folklore. The "rules" often stated for working with the Fair Folk: things like "don't say thank you", "offerings should be of milk and honey", "don't tell them your name, for it gives them power over you". Are not universal concepts. Actually, they mostly come from Irish and Scottish lore.

And that's logical because they have the most written about the Fair Folk.

However, those might not be the "rules" of your local Fair Folk. For example, Dutch Fae were given offerings of pancakes. Gnomes apparently love boiled potatoes. And any Fair Folk that love to help humans will disappear forever when seen. Different rules for different Folk.

Fern's Altar Tours: the Fair Folk

Next up is the little shrine part of my main working altar. This part is dedicated to the Fair Folk. In my practice there are five "groups" of Fair Folk that I like to call upon and honour, and each of those groups has a crystal representing them, both on the shrine and on the little LED candle that I made.

Other interesting bits on the altar:

The raised stand with moonphases I made myself from a cheap-shop plant stand

the statue is by Jessica Galbreth and called Lavender Moon. I've had it for two decades at least!

The faery star is a pendant that I once got on a pagan fair. The faery star is also important to my practice as a whole. I'm still looking for some earrings, but haven't found the right ones yet

There's real dried mushrooms as well

The focal card is from Ravynne Phelan's Messenger Oracle which very much has Fae vibes to me

There is also a hidden statue of my familiar, which I feed every full moon

Crystals here: amethyst, fluorite, aventurine, dragon agate, unicorn stone, kunzite, staurolite (fairy cross), chalcedony, green aventurine

I light this candle every night to honour the Fair Folk, and use it as a focal point for any workings related to them. An example being a small spirit house that rests there on the days when the Fae are said to roam or move, like Samhain and Beltane.
