Dont stone me i got hit with writers block so this is short as fuck.
Fíli x reader
Half assed follow up to yesterday's fic.
Im just yapping atp
You woke up to the smell of cooking meat and the sound of everyone bustling around as they packed up camp.
You'd fallen asleep on watch again. Falling asleep on watch wasn't ideal. For multiple reasons but only one currently bothered you and that's the crook in your neck and the pain in your bottom from sleeping sitting up on the cold hard ground.
You grumble to yourself about how stiff your limbs feel, rolling your neck with a satisfying pop and then slowly standing and stretching out your limbs.
“You should really stop falling asleep on watch y'know.” Fíli's voice rang out somewhere to your left. You turned towards him, yawning. He was leaning against a tree, arms crossed over his chest. He was devoid of his normal coat which surprised you as you'd never seen him without it.
“Wheres your coat?” You ask, hooking your thumbs into your sword belt.
He chuckled. “What? A man can't take his coat off sometimes?” you rolled your eyes, realizing the obvious nature of your words. “I didn't mean it like that, I've just never seen you without it is all.”
“OK, fair point.” He shrugged in acknowledgement, glancing away from you
You followed his eyes and landed on the rest of the company readying themselves for today's portion of the trek. One you hoped would stay as uneventful as the past few days. The constant ruins with beasts was starting to get on your nerves.
After a few moments of you and Fíli standing in awkward silence he eventually walked off, presumably to get all his stuff rounded up to go --which you should be doing yourself– so you ran a hand through your unruly hair and traipsed after him.
WARNINGS: Fluffy stuff. 1 corny pickup line. Angst elements if you dig deep enough but not actually angsty.
We can ignore how i almost forgot to write today.
Enjoy!
Memory lane
“Yea im dying alone on that hill”
You had accidentally uttered this outloud. In front of a certain Durin. Fíli. He was like a hen sometimes you reckoned.
“What hill? And who said you were dying? I'm not letting that happen anytime soon”
Or at all, if you knew the Golden Haired dwarf well enough. Which you did.
He looked at you, his eyebrows turned up slightly
“It's a figure of speech Fí. Don't think too hard about it.”
You quip with a cheek smile.
Fili eyed you for a moment before shrugging and turning away; back to his work you supposed.
Now you and fili weren't necessarily together yet -A thought that often crossed your mind. And one that had you known was often occupying Fílis mind, wouldn't have had the two of you unintentionally dancing circles around the other for so damn long.
But the both of you being a bit headstrong and stubborn –A quality that is especially prominent in the dwarfs you accompany– leaving both of you at ends with each other.
Not the best plan of action from either of you, you realized this on the daily.
Two things mainly keeping the two of you apart, one was the crippling fear of rejection and the second was the fact that -when you truly think about it– liked to watch him flirt with you amd try to get your attention.
The stolen glances when he thought you weren't looking and then him turning away with a light pink tinge to the tips of his ears when you catch him looking.
The near constant flirty comments and occasionally cheese pickup lines he would try his hand at when he was extra relaxed and feeling confident.
“Hey y/n, are you the wind?”
He asked one night when the others were settling down already. You had been sitting against a tree finishing off your food when he asked.
So like the eager listener you are you set your soup bowl back in your lap, licking a bit of soup off your upper lip before you glance up at him
“Huh– The wind? What?”
You inqired, eyebrows quirked in confusion.
He took a moment to respond, glancing away from you and out into the dark of thw surrounding forest. Shifting his feet nervously he finally replied.
“uh, cus you blew me away”
He finished the pickup line with an –oh so cute– awkward smile on his face.
This warranted a quiet snort of laughter out of you but before you could respond he had already retreated, flustered and albeit a slight bit worried that you now hated him.
This would always be one of the happy memories you'd hold close to your heart amongst many others.
“Y/n hellooo, Eä to Y/n.” Fílis hand waving in front of your face amd his teasing drawl is what pulled you from your memories.
You playfully stated at his hand
“Oh heave off Fí”
Your words were accompanied by a giggle. He smiled before speaking up again.
“You seemed pretty out of it, care to share what had you so far up in the clouds hmm?”
His voice had a playful ring to it and you had to smile
“I do an awful lot of smiling around him” is what crosed your thoughts before you ended up actually answering his question
“Just a trip down memory lane”
“Nothing bad i hope” he was quick to reply, quirking one brow slightly in query
“Of course not. Just the good memories.” you pause for a moment before continuing. “This adventure is one im glad to have gone on. Even if its far from over yet”
His smile always has been so radiant. One of those smiles people –accurately– say could light up a room. One you could have handled seeing every day of your life.
“Ever glad am i, that you decided to join this jolly bunch of dwarves” he spoke from the bottom of his heart, this you could tell. You seemed to have a knack for picking up on such things from him.
The close proximity of him to you was the next thing you noticed, and thus your eyes flited over him for a moment in a seemingly unprecedented motion.
The tension between the two of you was thick enough it could be cut with a knife.
“This is not ideal. It would certainly blow your cover” is what you thought right before the voice of Bofur was heard calling for Fíli to aid him with something.
Bofur often ended up as your saving grace you realized as you watched the golden haired dwarf prince wave and then head back to the others. You would certainly have to thank him sometime. Though this warranted that there was a possibility that he knew what was going on between you and Fíli. But then again, one would have to be practically blind not to notice the tedious relationship between you and the prince was getting. “Borderline situationship” some part of you pointed out and you couldn't help but agree.
Freeing yourself from your thoughts you glanced around for a nice tree to sit against during night watch and with a final look back into the camp you settled down for what you suspected was going to be a long night of stewing in your thoughts.
