The Slip

Freedom. It was as exhilarating as it was infuriating. The sky was brighter, the air was cleaner, and Rufus felt the rush of adrenaline keep him going as he meandered around ShinRa’s dedicated grounds for SOLDIER. It had been all too easy. The Director of SOLDIER had invited him over for reasons even the blonde was not entirely keen on dwelling. And as jurisdictions worked, Turks were only invited on barracks unless on official business. So, when it came to matters like his house arrest… It was easy to give the SOLDIER assigned to him the slip. The blonde had not even met him before he took every liberty to enjoy his newfound freedom.

Granted, deep down he knew it was just a bigger cage. The moment he stepped off the barracks, his personal shadows would become quite attached once more, and his confinement would resume. A part of him almost felt guilty. Lazard was entirely too fond of him. The way the man talked to him about his interests and hobbies nearly made the professional visit seem like a social call. Another part of him considered what sort of reprimand this ‘Zack Fair’ was going to receive upon losing his charge. Then again, it was not as though Rufus was going to cause any trouble. The SOLDIER could rest easy in knowing that he would not tell a soul. Of course, that required that same SOLDIER… knowing at all.

Caught in his thoughts, Rufus was not entirely paying attention, finding his face plastered into the smelly back of someone far large than he was. It was a SOLDIER. Surprise, surprise. But he did not look entirely happy being touched.

“Where the fuck you going, pipsqueak??” He growled.

Disdainfully, Rufus wiped a sheen of sweat that had transferred to his face and flicked his hand to the ground. He had to bite his tongue. There was nothing he wanted to say that would make the situation better. But it seemed silence was just as infuriating as an insult, seeing that the stinking SOLDIER grabbed him by the collar and quite easily picked him up off the ground. They weren’t kidding about how inhuman SOLDIER were… @fairheartsoldier

Iris blinked a few times at how large the teddy bear actually was. She wasn’t used to this type of treatment and grinned widely at Zack. “She’s great! She’s so fluffy and soft! Are you sure you don’t have anyone else you’d rather give her to? “

“I w-wan’ Nom!” It wasn’t easy at all for the little boy to watch Noctis leave for an unknown amount of time, and when he’d actually seen the King leave earlier none of it made sense but now it was slowly beginning to. He wouldn’t be here for Astrals knew how long, and the three-year-old was already starting to miss him terribly. Tears rolled down his face as Novus began to cry while still continuing to keep his eyes on the educational television show that he was watching. At least Zack was here to keep things under control or try to. 

“I wan’ Nom.” he sniffled sliding off the couch to go find his parents, or at least Zack, wherever he was in the citadel. “Nom? N-Nom? Where you go?” was the only question that he repeated as he wandered down the hallways and into various rooms before deciding to lay down in the middle of the hallway and cry his little eyes out curling up while hiccuping and sniffling all the while wondering where everybody had gone. “Zada? Where you?” he asked quietly wondering if his Dad had left him too...

“Need. More. Coffee.”

Sleepy starters

“Why? Why you need more coffee?” the three-year-old inquired as he stopped running around only to sit on his chair at the table watching Zack. “Can I have coffee, Zada? I want some too.”

Zack had recently purchased a new toy, hoping to test it out on Simba. It was a stick, a chirping bird toy hanging at the end of a string connected to it. Sneaking up behind the cub, Zack dangled the toy in the other's face, shaking it lightly to force noise from it and gain Simba's attention.

The toy continued to bop against the bridge of his nose creating a chirp as it did so. If Zack wanted his attention, he got it. “Where’d you come from?” Simba asked watching it bounce, settle, then move again. “Did you fall out of your nest? Did you get lost? Are you trying to fly by yourself?” Another thing struck him as odd. “How come you’re not talking?”

          among  a  sea  of  green  and  bursts  of  color  lay  a  tinge  of  contrast.  a  black  tunic,  torn  and  tattered.  a  head  of  fluffy  silver  hair,  dirtied  and  browned  by  the  earth.  eyes  like  the  sacred  treasure  of  the  gorons,  uncertain  yet  reflecting  a  hint  of  desire  and  curiosity  as  they  trailed  another  --  a  boy,  looking  to  be  around  his  age.  KIND?  that  was  left  to  be  determined,  should  courage  lead  the  outcast  out  and  away  from  where  he’d  burrowed  himself.

                               a  friend...  could  be  made.  an  endeavor  best  left  abandoned--------  HOPE  had  lead  him  astray  far  too  many  times,  yet  his  unhealthy  relationship  with  it  kept  him  foolishly  chasing  what  little  positive  interactions  he  could  achieve.  a  boy  at  the  marketplace  had  been  a  solid  prospect,  just  the  other  day,  his  naivety  in  full  form  up  until  his  mother  had  snatched  him  away,  SCOLDING  him  for  not  being  more  CAUTIOUS.

         ---  of  what?  this  harmless  child  who  could  barely  lift  a  blade?  who  tripped  over  his  words  and  bolted  at  the  first  sign  of  violence?

                      h  i  m ?  but  WHY?
